EPL: Arteta reacts to Leno’s error after Arsenal lose 1-0 to Everton

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has insisted “errors are part of football”, after Bernd Leno’s blunder gifted Everton all three points on Friday night.

Leno allowed Richarlison’s effort through his legs and the goal proved decisive, as the Gunners lost 1-0 at the Emirates.

Before then, Richarlison had conceded a penalty for a foul on Dani Ceballos. However, VAR determined that Nicolas Pepe was offside in the build-up by the slightest of margins.

The defeat is Arsenal’s seventh at home in the Premier League this season, which is the most they have suffered since the 1992/1993 campaign.

When asked about Leno’s mistake, Arteta told reporters after the game: “Errors are part of football, we conceded an own goal that defined the game at the end. We didn’t create enough against a team that is well organised, we lacked clarity in the final third.

“We need to go through the disappointment and focus our energy, the semi-final is more than crucial for us. I don’t want to use any excuses, I understand the protests.”
