Don’t dump business for politics, Zinox chairman urges entrepreneurs

The Chairman of Zinox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh, has cautioned entrepreneurs against dumping business to engage in full-time politics.

He gave the advice while speaking at a webinar organised by the Lagos Business School Alumni on Thursday.

Ekeh, who spoke on ‘Strategies for business scalability and sustainability’, said dumping business for politics is “wrong”.

According to him, most entrepreneurs who joined politics at the detriment of their businesses ended up regretting it.

He also advised business owners to focus more on developing their businesses rather than criticising the government.

Ekeh said, “When you have a business in a third world. The government can delete you because of lack of knowledge, they are ignorant of the implications of some of their policies. But you must continue to invest in uncomplimentary businesses.

“You cannot change certain things in Nigeria and that is why some of us criticise government less. So many people are talking at the same time, that will not bring about desired development.

“That you are a Nigerian means nothing, you can deliver your service anywhere in the world but know that to deliver your business in the third world, government, infrastructure can be disappointing.

“When a place becomes highly political, move on. To sustain a business, you must dump politics. Look into it, but never invest in it. You can not dump business to do politics comfortably.

“Those leaving biz to politics need a rethink. Some of them regret after failing. It is not the right thing to think politics can help you to sustain your business.”
