COVID-19: Nigeria records 927 recoveries — highest single-day count this week

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 394 fresh COVID-19 cases across 17 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) on Wednesday.

Also, 927 new recoveries were confirmed on Wednesday — making it the highest number of patients discharged in the week as the agency recorded 230 recoveries on Sunday, 461 on Monday, and 554 on Wednesday.

With this, Nigeria’s total recovery tally currently stands at 139,983.

The new positive samples remained on a low side, however, Wednesday’s data recorded the highest single-day count since on Sunday.

At the start of the week, 269 new cases were confirmed, which rose to 371 on Monday; then declined to 346 fresh infections on Tuesday.

Bauchi state recorded the highest number of new infections on Wednesday with 75 positive samples; followed by Lagos, the worst-hit state with COVID-19 in Nigeria, which had 36.

Other states with new cases include: Akwa Ibom (33), FCT (32), Nasarawa (29), Kaduna (26), Rivers (25), Ogun (22), Oyo (21), Edo (20), Taraba (18), Imo (17), Ondo (17), Borno (8), Plateau (7), Zamfara (4), Osun (3), and Kano (1).

However, the agency said “Wednesday’s report includes data from Taraba state recorded over the last two days”.

It reported that Nigeria had five new deaths, increasing the total number of fatalities to 1,993.

The country now has a total of 159,646 confirmed COVID-19 infections across 36 states and the FCT, with 17,670 currently active cases.
