Buhari hails Obasanjo at 84, says Nigeria looks up to him for wisdom

 

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria will continue to look up to Obasanjo for his wisdom and statesmanship.

Buhari spoke while felicitating with Obasanjo on his 84th birthday.

 

A statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari as saying Obasanjo has served Nigeria with “loyalty and huge dedication”.

 

The president prayed that God sustains him with greater strength and wisdom to continue “his good works for the country”.

 

 “On behalf of the Government of Nigeria, President Buhari wishes the former President, who has served the country with loyalty and huge dedication, continued good health and happiness,” the statement read.

 

“President Buhari said the nation will continue to look up to the former President for wisdom and statesmanship.

 

“As family, Nigerians and friends around the world celebrate the former president, President Buhari prays God almighty to sustain him with greater wisdom and strength to continue his good works for the country.”

Obasanjo, a known critic of Buhari, was the military head of state from 1976 to 1979.

 

He later served as president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007.
