Boko Haram: Military operation might have helped some Chibok girls escape – Irabor

Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, on Sunday, stated that Chibok girls were not in the custody of the military.

The CDS, however, said those who recently escaped might have benefited from ongoing raids in Borno and the Lake Chad region.

Operation Tura Takai Bango, the first offensive in 2021, had eliminated many Boko Haram and ISWAP commanders and fighters.

It is believed that troops’ assault on terrorists’ camps aided the escape of some girls from captivity.

During his visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, Irabor said he had no information.

“We do not have any of the Chibok girls in our custody, so if they are not with us, we have nothing to confirm again.

“It is the desire of the military the get the Chibok girls back safely. If our operations have helped those said to have escaped, I think we are glad”, he added.

The CDS, accompanied by other Service Chiefs, was at the Command to appraise the security situation in the Northeast and get briefing.

Chibok residents are eager for information on whereabouts of more than 100 girls yet to be freed since 2014.
