Duro Ajeyalemi, a retired professor of science
education at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has died of complications from
COVID-19.
Ajeyalemi, the institution’s former dean of students affairs
and immediate past registrar of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations
Board (JUPEB), was said to have died on Wednesday at an isolation centre in
Lagos.
He retired from UNILAG in 2020 after he clocked 70 years
old.
His demise is coming less than three days after the death of
Oye Ibidapo-Obe, a former vice-chancellor of UNILAG.
Ibidapo-Obe, a professor of systems engineering, reportedly
died of COVID-19 complications in an undisclosed hospital .
On Tuesday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
recorded a total of 1,354 new COVID-19 cases across 20 states and the federal
capital territory (FCT).
So far, Nigeria has recorded a total of 92,705 COVID-19
cases with 1,319 deaths.
