Lekki shooting: Man offers N150k reward to anyone with evidence of casualties

Bayo Adedosu, a Twitter user who describes himself as an IT consultant, has offered a reward of N150,000 to anyone with evidence of casualties from the Lekki tollgate incident.

Hours before a curfew was scheduled too begin, soldiers had stormed the Lekki tollgate in Lagos on October 20 where protesters had gathered and started shooting.

The Lekki incident has received widespread condemnation within and outside Nigeria.

Although the army insists nobody was fatally injured as blank bullets were shot into the air, there has been controversy over allegations of casualties, with organisations such as Amnesty International, insisting that people died of gunshot injuries.

Adedosu had initially announced a N50,000 reward via his Twitter handle but later said two people had offered additional N100,000.

“Good morning fellow Nigerians. In the spirit of truth & justice, I am putting down 50k as a reward for anyone who can come forward with VERIFIABLE pictures of dead pple from the Lekki Toll Gate “shooting”. Pls note that sending fake pictures comes with dire consequences,” he had posted.

Some minutes after posting his initial tweet, Adedosu added that the reward had increased to N150,000 as two people had added N50,000 each.

“You must be ready to prove that you took the pictures, the pictures must have timestamp and be assured that you’re safe. The money has increased to 150k naira with 2 pple adding 50k each. This is not a joke. Let’s put a closure to this debacle today,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Oladosu’s offer has generated diverse reactions, with some users condemning his post, while others are offering to add to the reward.

“The governor of Lagos admitted that people died and you are here satisfying your paymasters. It’s very sad sha,” a Twitter user with the handle, @AdedejiEsq, wrote.

Another Twitter user, @NellsIfy, wrote: “They should come forward and then make una finish work abi? It’s only God that will judge you people. Nemesis go catch up with una one day.”

A Twitter user simply identified as Adewale, who seemed pleased with the businessman’s post, also offered the sum of N100,000 for anyone with evidence of gunshot injuries sustained at the Lekki tollgate on October 20.
