I’ve not slept since Oct 20… Lekki incident traumatised me -Burna Boy

Burna Boy, an Afropop singer, says he hasn’t been able to sleep since after the October 20 attack on youths protesting against police brutality in Lekki, Lagos state.

On Tuesday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, had declared a 24-hour curfew after thugs caused pockets of violence across the state but the protesters failed to leave the Lekki toll gate.

Videos that surfaced thereafter showed men in army uniform firing at unarmed protesters during an attack, with several persons feared dead and others confirmed to have sustained different degrees of injury.

Taking to his Twitter on Friday, Burna Boy joined prominent figures who have condemned the Lekki shooting.

“I have not slept since 20/10/2020. I close my eyes and all I see is Lekki toll gate. I’ve seen a lot of violence and death in my life but this is the one that has Traumatized me,” the Grammy-nominated singer wrote.

In reaction to fans who were aroused by the sensationalism behind his comment, he added: “This is from the bottom of my soul. I did not mean any harm by what I said.

“I sincerely apologise for coming across that way. I’m already in a dark place inside. You’re my brother and I love you.  Please don’t be offended. We’re all hurt, angry, afraid, and confused right now.”
