Arsenal on #EndSARS: Our thoughts are with everyone in Nigeria

Arsenal Football Club (AFC) on Saturday commiserated with Nigerians over the crisis that has ensued due to the #EndSARS protests across the nation.

In a post on its Twitter page, the north London club said it cannot “imagine the pains” of those affected by the democide in some parts of the country.

On Tuesday night, a number of the #EndSARS protesters were reportedly shot dead or wounded at the Lekki toll gate plaza by soldiers.

According to Amnesty International, at least 56 people have died across the country since the protests began, with about 38 killed on Tuesday alone.

The north London club wrote: “To our Nigerian fans. We see you. We hear you. We feel you. We have read your replies. We have seen the footage. We cannot imagine the pain. Our thoughts are with everyone in Nigeria. Stay strong. Stay safe.”

Arsenal’s popularity in Nigeria swelled during the early 2000s when the club signed Kanu Nwankwo, former Super Eagles legend.

Since the #EndSARS protest started in the country, there has been condemnation from the football community across the globe.

Odion Ighalo, former Super Eagles striker had described the federal government as a shame to the world for “killing your own citizens.”
