Court remands driver for allegedly damaging employer’s N12m car



An Upper Area Court in Mpape, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered that a 23-year-old driver, Okpanachi Emmanuel, be remanded in prison for allegedly damaging his employer’s car valued at N12m. The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, adjourned the case to May 8, for hearing.


The police charged Emmanuel, who resides at Kado, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust and theft. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.


Earlier, the Prosecutor, Edwin Ochayi, told the court that one Isaac Anumudu of Garki ll, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on April 21.



The prosecutor said on that day, the defendant, who was newly employed as a driver, while driving from the Apo Mechanic Village in a motorcade, beat the traffic light, causing multiple accidents in Maitama, Abuja. The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 311 and 286 of the Penal Code.
