The Chief of Army Staff, Major.
Gen. Tukur Buratai has disclosed that the military and other security agencies
would ensure peaceful election during the forthcoming election in the country.
Buratai, who gave the assurance
on Thursday, while flagging off Operation Egwu Eke III (Python Dance) in Owo,
Ondo State, also assured Nigerians of adequate security of lives and property
before, during and after the 2019 elections.
The Chief of Army Staff,
represented by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division of Nigerian Army,
Major. Gen. Okwudili Azinta, stated that the exercise was designed at
checkmating the threat that may arise before, during and after the 2019
elections, as well as to curb the spate of insecurity in the state.
“This exercise will be on from
today till February 24 to checkmate the activities of criminals before, during
and after the coming elections.
“Our men will be everywhere in
the state both on land and water to check the threat of criminals who might
want to catch on the current security situation in the country and Ondo State
to cause trouble.
“Let me also assure the people of
the state that there will not be hidden place for kidnappers in the state.”
Buratai, who also vowed to deal
with political thugs planning to disrupt the electoral process, admonished
politicians to desist from arming youths for political gains, adding that
anyone caught would not be spared.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor,
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was also at the event, lauded the military for their
efforts in ensuring peace in the state and across the country.
Akeredolu revealed that no
meaningful development could take place in a society devoid of peace, and
assured of continued support of his administration with all security agencies
in the state.
Also present at the even were the
state Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju; his NSCDC counterpart, Pedro
Awili, as well as other heads of security agencies who pledged to collaborate
with each other in order for sustainable peace to be achieved in the state and
the country at large.
