The Accountant-General of the
Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, has told the Nigeria Police that his office
would not discontinue the implementation of the Integrated Personnel Payroll
Information System (IPPIS), as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Inspector General of Police
(IGP) Ibrahim Idris had complained that the IPPIS was causing salary shortage
and non-payment of Salary of some Police Personnel across the country.
Idris expressed his concern that
the situation could effect moral of his officers and men.
He said, “The Nigeria Police
Force frowns at this ugly situation; the Force is also mindful of the fact that
short/delay payment of salary of some personnel of the Force if allowed to
continue as being witnessed will have negative impact on the welfare of such
personnel.”
But yesterday, AGF Idris
explained that the complaints on shortfall in the salary payment has to do with
statutory deductions on the IPPIS platform which is applicable to every
employee on the platform, some of which include, the National Housing Fund
(NHF), which is 2.5% of the basic salary, Employees Pension and PAYE tax as
stipulated by the Joint tax board.
He urged the police authorities
to educate their men on these issues, adding that “there is no going back on
Mr. President’s directive to enrol the Nigeria Police force and other Security
Agencies on the IPPIS platform.”
Idris, spoke while receiving a
delegation of the Nigeria Police Force, led by Assistant Inspector General of
Police (AIG), Abdul Salami Iyaji.
A statement issued by the Head,
Press and Public Relations (OAGF) Oise Johnson said “the AGF described the
seeming intractable issues emanating from the enrolment of the Nigeria Police
on the IPPIS platform as unacceptable and which must be dispensed with without
further delay”.
“He directed the Nigeria Police
to submit all the required documents requested by the IPPIS department to his
office and so that he will personally supervise the process of resolving the
matters immediately.”
Idris also directed the IPPIS
Consultant, Messers Soft Alliance to immediately deploy additional personnel to
ensure that all issues are resolved within the shortest time possible.
Of newly promoted police
officers, “the AGF directed the police to make a comprehensive list of all
officers involved, indicating their IPPIS Numbers”.
Meanwhile, the House of
Representatives has resolved to probe deductions in the salary of police
officers and men nationwide.
