The Federal Executive Council,
FEC, on Wednesday resolved to merge schools in the North East in order to
provide adequate security and prevent a reoccurrence of students’ abduction by
the Boko Haram insurgents.
This move was disclosed by the
Information Minister, Lai Mohammed while addressing State House reporters on
the release of Dapchi schoolgirls on Wednesday.
Mohammed emphasized that schools
would be merged especially those located in remote areas.
According to him, immediately
after Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted, President Muhammadu Buhari directed
security agencies to man every school.
“But you see, we must look at this
thing in contest. If you look at other countries like the US, Florida, you will
see how gunmen entered the school and killed about 17 pupils.
“Insurgency all over the world is
a global issue and the government must always be on its toes.
“One of the things we have done
today is that we have tried to secure the schools and there is even an effort
on the part of government to even merge some schools that are far-flung.”
