Elder statesman and a former governor of the old Kaduna State,
Alhaji Balarabe Musa has warned the military personnel against throwing the
nation into confusion in their bid to hijack power. He asked Nigerians to
resist any attempt to remove the current democratic government in the country
by force.
Recall that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai,
had last week warned some top politicians to stop “approaching officers and
soldiers for political reasons”, a development which people believe could be a
plot to overthrow the current political dispensation in the country.
He reminded them that the Nigerian Army is a thorough
professional, disciplined, loyal and apolitical institution that has clear
Constitutional roles and responsibilities.
“Therefore, he seriously warned and advised all officers and soldiers interested in politics, to resign their commission or apply for voluntary discharge forthwith.
“Any officer or soldier of Nigerian Army found to be hobnobbing with such elements or engaged in unprofessional conducts such as politicking would have himself or herself to blame”, the statement added.
Musa, while speaking with newsmen on Monday, called on Nigerians
to be vigilant and ensure that the country was not thrown into political chaos.
