Sheriff walks out on Jonathan/PDP stakeholders’ meeting

Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday walked out of the party’s stakeholders meeting organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan. Sheriff, who got to the venue of the meeting a few minutes after Jonathan had delivered his remarks, walked out with members of his National Working Committee at about 4.15 p.m.

Some of the executive members with him were the Deputy National Chairman, Dr Cairo Ojougboh and the Publicity Secretary, Mr Mikko Bernard. Sheriff, addressing newsmen before leaving, expressed displeasure for not being allowed to make the opening remarks. “We are here for PDP stakeholders meeting and the PDP has only one national chairman, which is Ali Modu Sheriff. “There is no PDP meeting that will take place under whatever arrangement that will not open the session as national chairman;.

Today, I’m the most senior member of this party.

He also said that he would not be party to anything outside the reconciliation report submitted to him by Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa. “I think Gov Dickson made a proposal for reconciliation that we have accepted. Some people want to deviate from this programme, to bring agenda which was not part of it. “As national chairman of the party, what I told you in my office when Dickson brought the report is the only thing that we have agreed to at this moment. “I will not be party to anybody using me to do another programme.

I’m not going to be part of it”, Sheriff said. Asked about the way forward for the party, Sheriff said: “As the National Chairman of PDP, I will move on with the programmes initiated by Gov. Dickson. “We are continuing with that; anything outside that, I’m not a party to it.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the meeting however continued after his walk-out. Jonathan, speaking on the outcome of the meeting, regretted what happened during the meeting.

According to him, the issues will be addressed once the committee comes out with its own recommendations. A member of the party, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that Sheriff was not allowed to address the meeting because he insisted that the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, should not be allowed to address the meeting.

NAN also reports that both Sheriff and Makarfi were scheduled, in the agenda of the meeting, to deliver goodwill messages. PDP members present included Chief Tom Ikimi, Prince Uche Secondus, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, Chief Olisa Metuh, Ahaji Saminu Turaki, Sen. David Jang and Sen. Adolphus Wabara. Also present were some PDP governors, former ministers, and the BoT members, among others. (NAN)

  1. It's obvious you're playing a script already written for you. But have in mind that one day all dis dram you're stylishly displaying will come to an end.

Is there no way to deal with an airing National Chairman in PDP constitution. This madness has gone on far too long.

    1. I organized a meeting and invited you over and you're coming to claim Chairman and also decide who will speak and not speak. It's obvious your village witches are using your brain for Semo.

    2. No be small semo, meeting was organized, not by the chairman and a time was fixed and you came late into the meeting and you want everyone to wait for your arrival before commencing the meeting, that is pure arrogance. The chairman is not bigger than the party and should not be waited for, if he came late, he should join the meeting and surely would be briefed of the happenings so far.

  3. No be so, if you organize meeting and invite me as a national chairman if you really respect me why don't you Waite for me??? They just want to rubbish him, and Is Good as he walked out. My prayers are let this drama, arguement, and lakadastical movements continued up to 2019. So that PDP will disappear on earth

    1. Honestly i wonder how some people think. you are invited to a meeting organised by an EX-PRESIDENT, also among members attending the meeting are EX-Governors like yourself, Senators just name it, a time was given for the commencement of the meeting. If you must know, all this people gathered here had to call off other engagement's to be there at the stipulated time. Are you saying they should all stay put and wait for almighty Sheriff to come when he so chooses to graze them with his presence for the meeting to commence. Then you want to come and dictate terms on who speaks and who doesn't speak,

Bear in mind this was a a PEACE meeting organised to solve a lingering problem you're supposed to come OPEN MINDED. As far as am concerned he doesn't need anyone to rubbish him, he has done a good job of that by himself. It's clear by your comment that the plan is to prolong the PDP crisis until 2019 to give the APC an easy victory. But even if PDP dies, another party will challenge d APC if they refuse to wake up and tackle issues PROMPTLY AS AT WHEN DUE, and stop trying to blackmail everyone who airs their voices against them. It will not shock me to see another party come out of the APC sef. You guys should keep deluding yourself you have a solid party.

Honestly this witches must be making a massive Semo party the effect is spreading far and wide.
