President Buhari approves appointment of Supreme Court judges

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday approved the appointment of two Supreme Court judges, Sidi Bage and Paul Gilinje.

The two new justices are expected to be sworn in on December 5 by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

The appointment was based on a recommendation by the National Judicial Council, on October 6, shortly before the council forwarded the name of Mr. Onnoghen to Mr. Buhari for endorsement.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information, NJC, Soji Oye, and made available to journalists on Friday, the council said Mr. Buhari had approved the appointments of the justices.

It added that their swearing-in ceremony would hold on December 5.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Honourable Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, and Honourable Justice Paul Adamu Galinje, as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.

“The two Honourable Justices will be sworn-in by the Acting Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Hon. Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, CFR, on Monday 5th December, 2016 at 2.00 pm in the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” the statement said.
