Residents will return to Bama in two weeks — Borno govt

The Borno State Environmental Protection Agency, on Saturday, said Bama should be ready for rehabilitation in the next two weeks.

The Sole Administrator of the Agency, Nassir Surundi, said massive clearance of weeds and fumigation against pesticides and rodents had commenced with the deployment of 1,000 personnel to the town.

Insurgents had reportedly thrown thousands of corpses into Yedzaram River and boreholes, and littered the streets of the town with human and animal carcasses when they were pushed out by the military last year.

Surundi, while supervising fumigation and cleaning in the town, said he was acting on the instructions of Governor Kashim Shettima, who was on a week-long stay in Bama to supervise ongoing preparation of the town for resettlement.
