Rio Olympics: Nigerian Swimmers Know Opponents



Nigeria's female swimmer Rechael Tonjor will compete against Turkmenistan's Darya Semyonova and Daniah Hagual from Libya in heat 1 of the 100m breaststrokes swimming event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic on Sunday.


Tonjour, 24, drawn in lane one, will have a target on her head at the Games after emerging as the overwhelming 100m favourite by clocking a blistering 1:21.54 seconds during the qualifying rounds.

Her opponents Daniah who has a personal best of 1:28.59 seconds is in lane three while Semyonova with a season best of 1:23.19 seconds will compete in lane five.

Meilutyte Ruta from Lituanian holds the world record with a 1.04.35 seconds in the the 100m breaststrokes swimming event while Australia are the current Olympic record holders in the same category with a fast time of 1:05.17 seconds set at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Best 16 Athletes will progress to the next phase according to the rules.

In the men's 50m freestyle swimming event, 30 year old Samuel Opuakpo will battle Billy Scott, Imaniraguha Eloi, Hilal Hemed, Farhan Farhan, Tibatemwa Joshua, Harris Giordan and Kurbanov Olim, for a place in the next round.

Brazil hold both the world and Olympic record in this category.
