FT: Nigeria 0-2 Germany : Brazil face off against Germany in the gold medal match of the Rio 2016 Olympics. An early goal from Klostermann resulted in Germany asserting their dominance in the first half, before Nigeria were caught out late in the second half by substitute Petersen to wrap up the win. Nigeria will play Honduras in the bronze medal match, while Germany and Brazil face off in the Olympic final. The last time the two teams met in a major tournament? Brazil 1-7 Germany.

The Dream Team brought to their knees. Who would have thought that they would crumble like this? They now will play in that most unwanted of games - the third place playoff.

90 + 3 - The end of the match and the end for Nigeria. GERMANY will contest the Olympics final!

89 - Nigeria are caught upfield as they chase a goal, and Germany counter through Selke on the right, and he puts a ball across the boxfor Peterson to tap in at the far post, although he did look offside. Academic, as Germany are now through. Nigeria 0-2 Germany

89 - Goal Nils Petersen scores Germany's second goal

86 - John Obi Mikel is lining up a free-kick in a promising position. He lofts the ball into the box, but his teammates are unable to make much of the delivery.

84 - Captain Max Meyer comes off for Nils Petersen, with Sule taking the armband

80 - Just 10 minutes to go in a very disappointing second half in stark contrast to the first. The Super Eagles in particular have been very poor, considering their swashbuckling performances in the Olympic's so far.

79 - Serge Gnabry has also departed for Philipp Max. Time running out for Nigeria to get back in this game, but based on their lackluster play so far, I really doubt that Dream Team VI have a revival in them.

76 - Proemel comes on for Sven Bender.

73 - The introduction of Popoola Saliu seems to have brought calm in the Nigerian midfielder as the diminutive midfielder forces the Germans to keep to their half.

70 - Magnificent tackle from Sincere! Selke breaks free past the rest of the defence, but the centre-back keeps stride with him all the way and sticks out a vital boot to clear the ball at the crucial moment!

68 - The game's gone rather quiet as Germany attempt to break down Nigeria's defence, but Meyer and Brandt's passes forward are intercepted.

64 - Ajayi comes on for a tiring Umar Sadiq

64 - Timo Horn is nearly caught out at the near post from the cheeky free-kick and he voices his frustration with his wall.

63 - Umar Sadiq does well to earn a free-kick. This is probably Nigeria's best avenue of scoring - they have been comfortably second best in this game.

58 - WASTED CHANCE FROM GERMANY! Good exchange of pass from Mathias Ginter and Serge Gnabry, and Arsenal's Gnabry fires over the crossbar with just the goalkeeper only to beat

57 - Great play from Toljan as he chases a lost cause on the right wing and sends in a low cross only for Nigeria to wake up and clear.

55 - Lars Bender is down with an injury - I wonder is Sven Bender feels the same pain?

52 - Great defending from Ginter as he prevents Ezekiel from causing any further damage on the left wing with a powerful, jinking run.

49 - HOW HAVE THEY NOT SCORED?! Gnabry with a powerful run forward finishes with a through ball to Selke, and the striker takes the ball round Daniel but is unable to shoot from a narrow angle and watches as his cross is cleared.

48 - SAVE! Gnabry does well to cut inside and rifle a low, curling shot with the instep of his right foot that was destined for the bottom corner, only for Daniel to react well and make a fingertip save, diverting the ball out for a corner.

47 - An early chance as Gnabry almost gets on the end of a ball forward in the box, but Daniel rushed out to collect and dispel the danger.

46 - Germany get us underway in the second half!

HT: Nigeria 0-1 Germany - An entertaining first half ends with the Germans taking a well-deserved lead, with Lukas Klostermann tapping in from close range to give his side the lead, while Nigeria have only had a couple of rare chances.

45+1 - WHAT A CLEARANCE!!! Ginter with a last ditch tackle denies Sadiq Umar in the box, after a pass forward sends him clear in the box.

45 - One minute of additional time announced.

44 - Toljan denies Ezekiel with an excellent tackle as he charges up Nigeria's left wing, leaving the winger on the floor.

43 - Nigeria defence switched off again as Davie Selke pounces. No cause for worries though as the referee punishes him for being in an offside position.

40 - Mikel after his failed attempt to score in the 31st minute, seems to have been very quiet as the midfield has been well dominated by the Germans. This is when the Dream Team need the inspiration of the Chelsea star. Corner kick to the Germans

39 - A Mexican wave goes around the Brazilian crowd in Sao Paulo as Nigeria and Germany face off. It's a small world after all.

37 - SHOT! Some quick interplay from the Germans ends with a ball forward to Selke on the edge of the box - he collects, turns and shoots in one swift motion, but Daniel dives to his left to produce a wonderful save to deny the German striker.

35 - SHOT! Brandt lays the ball off to Meyer about 25 yards out, and he produces a wonderful shot with his left foot that sails narrowly over the top corner. How Germany are only 1-0 up remains a mystery.

32 - Nigeria have rarely been able to get out of their box, with Germany pressing incredibly aggressively whenever they lose the ball. Although Gnabry doesn't do to well this time around, conceding a foul.

30 - CHANCE! John Obi Mikel find his way into the German penalty area and his effort is blocked. Oh my goodness! That should have been the eualiser. Corner kick to Nigeria

28 - Selke is pulled up for offside as Meyer sends him through on the left wing with a clever pass. Germany wont be too disappointed - they look utterly dominant at the moment.

25 - Nigeria's first spell of concerted pressure ends with a woeful attempt at a cross from the left-back going straight into Row Z. What are they doing?!

22 - Germany work a short corner well with Meyer and Gnabry combining to send in a cross from the right, but Nigeria eventually clear the ball out. The Super Eaglets have struggled to impose themselves on this game, as moments later Gnabry nearly fashions another chance.

20 - SAVE! Germany send a free kick deep into Nigeria's box, but Lars Bender is unable to volley a headed pass back into the net, with Daniel in his way.

17 - Sule with some comfortable feet in the box despite the presence of Nigerian strikers around him. Germany have set up in a very attacking fashion as the fullbacks are playing almost as wingers.

14 Klostermann is a defender. A defender - yet he's already scored and charged up the field twice already. Meanwhile, Horn's every touch is met with a chorus of nervous jeers from the crowd. A proper test for the Koln keeper this.

12 - HOW LUCKY WAS THAT?! Timo Horn with a howler as he miskicks the ball straight to Umar Sadiq, but the Roma forward is unable to capitalize as Horn desperately dives at his feet and reclaims the ball.

9 -That is a stunning team goal! A lovely first-time slide rule pass from Gnabry sends Meyer through on the right wing and he is absolutely free to send in a low cross for Klostermann to slot home from a yard out. Nigeria 0-1 Germany

9 - GOAL KLOSTERMANN scores for Germany!!!!!

3 - Imoh Ezekiel fouled and Gnabry is booked for the late tackle

2- Almost! A great chance for Germany as Brandt steals the ball of the Nigerian centre-back, with Meyer subsequently sending Gnabry free on the left, but he's unable to come up with a shot from the left, as Nigeria get back to clear.

1 - Some early pressure from Nigeria ends with a foul from Mikel.

1 - Away we go! Nigeria kick off
