Nigeria's Olympic team, the U-23 Eagles, suffered another travel setback after their trip from their training camp in Atlanta, United States of America to Manaus on Wednesday was cancelled over flight scare among the players.
According to the media officer of the team, Timi Ebikagboro, the plane that was supposed to fly the players and officials from Atlanta to Manaus was too small, hence the cancellation.
The team is now expected to leave on Thursday morning for Manaus, venue of their opening game against Japan in the men's football event of Rio 2016.
"Breaking, trip cancelled, team heading back to hotel, plane too small, Federal Government hires Delta Airline flight for team, flight is 7am tomorrow.
"Players were not too comfortable with the size of craft so made an appeal which the Federal Government listened to and so hired the flight (Delta Airline).
"It leaves 7am and arrives 2pm in Manaus. Players will be well taken care of by the medical team on the flight, all is happy," Ebikagboro wrote on his Twitter handle.
The Nigeri U-23s will confront Japan their first group match of the men's football early Friday morning – precisely at 2am Nigerian time.
