Siasia confirms Mikel for Olympics

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi will represent Nigeria at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after initial fears he will not be released by his club, Olympic Team coach, Samson Siasia has said.

Samson Siasia confirmed to africanFootball.com on Tuesday that the Super Eagles captain will be available for the Olympics starting on August 4.

“We have some other players who have promised to join us and they have shown commitment like Wilfred Ndidi, who has assured us that he will join us in America.

“Other players who will be available are goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and Kenneth Omeruo. These are the players who are confirmed for now,” he told africanFootball.com.

  1. Why celebrating Mikel self? It. Sows that Siasia has no serious plans on how to do well in the tourney. Mikel ke! What does mikel bring to the team? Guarding ball abi ? Guarding ball ko guarding ball ni! Nemar in Brazilian side is clear about what he brings to the team though still within the age bracket do also pogba if France were to be there. But for Mikel.... I just dey laugh.Nigerians better prepare for aah! and ooh! For those with high BP better not put your mind there or else you be preparing for your obituary. O to!

  2. My brother, mikel may not be realy be a prodigy that we all hope he turns out to be,thanks to Jose who turn him to a defensive midfielder, still he brings to the team what very few does, balance. Some will be to do the dirty work for others to excel, mikel must b good to still be relevant for both club and country at 29. Also note that he remain one of the most decorated player this country has ever produced.
