PDP chairmanship: Former govs, lawmakers, others urge Gbenga Daniel to join race

The former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman Kresta Laurel Limited, Otunba (Engr.) Gbenga Daniel may join the race for the National Chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Already, a group made up of former and serving Governors, National Assembly members and committee of Ex-Ministers known as ‘Reformers’ have been holding consultative meetings across the country to set the ground for his emergence at the forthcoming National Convention of the party scheduled for August 17, 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

A member of the group who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that a committee has already been set up, headed by two serving governors to liaise with the various party caucuses.

The major opposition party, PDP, has been embroiled in leadership crisis since the party lost the presidential election in 2015. Various efforts aimed at unifying the party have resulted in fresh uprising.

In May, a national convention held in Rivers State to elect new set of national officers for the party ended in a stalemate and resulted into the dissolution of the National Working Committee and constitution of a National Caretaker Committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
