We will soon pass Gender Equality Bill — National Assembly

The National Assembly, yesterday, reiterated its commitment to passing into law the Gender Equality Bill without much delay. Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and Tetfund, Senator Binta Masi, made this known in Abuja, at a workshop organised by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO; National Universities Commission, NUC, and Are Babalola University, on the development of Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards for the Studies of Gender and Transformative Leadership programme in Nigeria.

She said though the Senate was still working on the bill, gender parity should be considered to avoid abeyance of the gender equality bill with religious beliefs in the country. She said: “The Nigerian Senate did not throw away the gender equality bill.

There are areas that needed to be fine tuned to prevent it from being in abeyance with the two religions we have in the country.”
