Nigeria U20 striker Victor Osimhen will not be at the Rio Olympics after he was left out of a 35-man provisional squad for the tournament submitted by coach Samson Siasia.
"Osimhen is not on this list," an official told reporters.
Osimhen, who was the MVP and record goal king at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile, was a last-minute replacement for Granada CF striker Isaac Success for last year’s U23 AFCON in Senegal.
He even played a huge role in Nigeria beating hosts Senegal in the semi-finals of the tournament, which served as the qualifying tournament for the Rio Olympics in August.
He also featured at a friendly against Rio hosts Brazil, which Nigeria won 1-0.
It was understood that Osimhen may have been left out for him to focus on theU20 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan next month.
Sudan host the Flying Eagles on July 8 with the return leg in Nigeria on July 22.
