Security, welfare of corps members, our top priority— Wike

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Wednesday assured the NYSC that the security and welfare of corps members would be a top priority of the state government.

Wike, represented by Chief Kenneth Kobani, the Secretary to State Government, stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 orientation course at Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Area of the state.

The governor promised to provide the needed assistance that would help actualise the goals of the NYSC scheme and reward exemplary performance by corps members.

Wike also warned the management of all schools in the state not to reject corps members posted to their institutions. “Let me state here that all schools in the state, as matter of policy, should not reject any corps member posted to them.

“We must as a state encourage these young graduates, in whatever means possible, to imbibe the spirit of nationalism and unity,” he said.

Wike also urged corps members to see themselves as the most potent tool in bringing about the much desired national unity even in the face of current challenges.

“As you collect your posting letter, it is important that you see it as window of opportunity for you to contribute your quota toward the development of our dear country,” he said.
