Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu writes United Nations, U.S Congress, EU parliament over forgery trial

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday wrote the United Nations, European Union, United States’ Congress, European Union Parliament, Governments of United States, United Kingdom and other foreign missions, over his trial for alleged forgery of Senate standing rules.

Ekweremadu raised the alarm over what he described as attempt to truncate Nigeria’s democracy and “silence him as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in the country, all in the name of prosecuting an alleged forgery case.”

The letter is a two-page document, entitled: “Re: Trumped up charges against the presiding officers of the 8th Senate: Nigerian Democracy is in Grave Danger,” a copy of which was sighted by our reporter in Abuja.

Ekweremadu attached copies of the court summons and other relevant documents relating to the matter to his letter.

The deputy Senate president noted that he wanted the international community, to “after perusing the facts before them, decide whether or not the trial was justified, or one purely borne out of political vendetta.”

He insisted that neither his name nor that of the president of the Senate, featured in the petition filed by the aggrieved members of the Senate Unity Forum (SUF) or during the investigation of the petition by the police.

  1. I guess he hasn't heard about the turmoil of Brexit. These countries have their own issues, and unless they will benefit from this letter they will not be interested. Go an clear your name in the courts and stop running from pillar to post!

    2. What makes you a man is how you handle your problems. You just behaved like a child who falls down and looks at his/her parent's faces. Be wise Nigeria is a sovereign nation. Those people you are running to cannot help you. At your level you should have known that. Go to court on day one and save us time.

  5. That's one thing with our Senators. You are a law maker but you are calling other countries to come save you. Why not go to court and prove to them that you didn't forge any standing order.
A former Governor was convicted last week in USA did he write to you to help him.

No body in the USA even see it as persecution but you're charged in the court in stead of facing your trying, you are crying to international societies. Nigeria is a sovereign state, no nation can interfere in their internal politics or problem. Have you written to International community to come and save Nnamdi Kalu or save Nigeria from Book harm or write to them to save us from Avengers. But you writing for them to save your ass for being a deputy senate president. Do you think international communities supports forgery or corruption.
You are scared now, when you all were deceiving GEJ you didn't write to anybody. When GEJ awarded Enugu - Onitsha express road to you which you didn't do, you didn't write to anybody. You wore Igbo attire to the court to deceive the Igbos as the battle is a tribal war. What have you done to the Igbo land, you arranged youths from Enugu to Abuja to protest for you... there's God.
When GEJ was there and you and David were leading the Senate did you do anything for Igbos, look at our roads but you are good in arranging the Igbo youths for your selfish desire. We know how many properties you have in Enugu during GEJ Era.
I pity my poor people dying for Politician, why they and their children never die for anybody.

    1. This has always been the style and strategy of PDP and their co-travellers, They held the mantle for 19 odd years and still nothing to show for it. It is rather unfortunate that Umu Nna (our Igbo brothers and sisters) has yet to see beyond the shenanigans of these deceivers who pose as Igbo representatives in government. Our brothers who were in the previous government had six good years to make meaningful impact in Igbo land when we had majority representatives in GEJ's government but we blew the opportunity for self enrichment, and now are directing our angers at the wrong person instead of facing our sons and daughters who have made themselves Billionaires at our expense. Unfortunately, the same brothers who have found themselves in government once again and now in trouble for alleged criminal offense are again selling us a dummy using ethnic colouration to muster Igbo support and pity when they are supposed to go and defend themselves in court. Infrastructures in Igbo land have decayed over the years when our brothers were in government and had the opportunity to make meaningful development in Igbo land. Paying some youths to carry placards and protest on their behalf when their own children are holidaying abroad only further shows how callous and self serving these Igbo politicians are and we should not fall for their trap. 2. My brother thank you for saying the truth. I know that Umu Igbo knows the truth, just that some few youths allows Politicians to be using them. This man has being in the Senate for a long time yet look at our roads. Let say the present administration is not doing good. But what has the Igbo land achieve in 16 years of PDP road. We know how bad Enugu -Onitsha express road is, and Enugu -portharcourt express road, yet we are not questioning our brothers representing us at Abuja what's happened or why they could not ask GEJ to do something for us. Second Niger bridge was the only thing the GEJ used to do campaign for the Igbos then what happened, no single work commenced there till he left, so the GEJ can't say they were doing it before GEJ left so they can't even call abandoned project because there was no project there as far as GEJ administration is concern. Let Nwa Igbo obuna point out here one project GEJ did for the Igbo people. Let Nwa Igbo Obuna point out here what Senator Ike Ekweremadu has done for Igbo land. We all heard that the contract of Enugu -Onitsha express road and Enugu -Portharcourt express road was given to him during GEJ administration but we saw what he did to the roads. Let say the contract was not given to him, can't he champion the project by making sure that the GEJ administration build that road for us. GEJ rehabilitated Enugu airport for the poor or for the rich. We all know the extent of accidents that always occur along these roads I mentioned.
Ekweremadu is playing ethnic card to deceive us,battle is not Igbo battle, just defend yourself before the court and show Umu Igbo that you are worthy son.
Ekweremadu wrote to the international communities because he knows the truth, they, altered the rule, he's wrote to those people because he's scared and he knows the consequences. Ekweremadu is not the only Igbo son in the Senate now and his position as a Deputy senate president will never bring anything to the Igbo land, not in this administration so let's stop playing with him the ethic card.
Our brothers in the Government has been fail us since 1999,buying properties everywhere. None of them have try to build pure water industry or toilet tissue industry to say the least, they are all building hotels.

  9. Buhari will never rest until he replaces Ekweremadu with an Hausa Fulani herdsman. Saraki is just the unfortunate collateral victim. Buhari is out on an ethnic and religious campaign and he doesn't care how many heads that rolls. I foresee something very bloody happening soon in nigeria.

  13. To be honest, Nigeria has a very big ethnic problems. The best thing is to divide Nigeria and each region will achieve more I tell you. People do not care about truth in Nigeria anymore but what they are after is ethnicity which determines whether the effected person should be crucify or not. Here, Ekweremadu stated that neither his name nor that of the president of the Senate, featured in the petition filed by unity forum but I am surprise that attorney general diverted to Ekweremadu.
APC led government should call a spade a spade. If Ekweremadu commits of course I will not support him but where he has not found guilty yet why all this? The economic crunch is enough for APC to face rather than series of complaints.
I am not always interested on corruption fighting but the achievements. YOU WANT TO SPEND 4 YEAR FIGHTING CORRUPTION WHILE OUR ECONOMY WORSEN DAY BY DAY? and mind you Ekweremadu's case is not yet corruption to me because he is not yet found guilter of any thing.

  14. He is wasting his time.....Only people with guilty consciences go about ranting when faced with corruption charges.
The International Community have better things to attend to than some silly Nigerian Politicians who see Public office as an avenue to enrich themselves.
