Sunday Oliseh Lauds Ex-Teammate Zidane After UCL Triumph

Former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has hailed Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane for winning the prestigious UEFA Champions League after five months in charge of the Spanish club.

Zidane became the seventh man to win the European Cup as a player and a coach after he led his side to their 11th European title in Milan by beating Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties after full time and extra-time ended 1-1.

Oliseh, who starred alongside the French legend at Juventus at the 1999-2000 season, hailed Zidane for joining the league of individuals who won the competition as a player and a coach.

Miguel Muñoz, Giovanni Trapattoni, Johan Cruyff, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Frank Rijkaard have all won the competition as a player and as coach.

“Congrats to Zidane for a lightning return to the top of World football. As he used to insist to me at Juventus that positive thinking is everything,” Oliseh wrote via his Twitter handle.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty as Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy for a record 11th time on Saturday.

Real captain Sergio Ramos opening the scoring on 15 minutes before Atletico substitute Yannick Carrasco equalised in the 79th minute.

In the shootout, Atletico’s Juanfran missed their penultimate spot kick, leaving Ronaldo the task of converting the final kick of the competition.
