RRS nab suspected ‘one-chance’ gang in Lagos

About seven members of a suspected one-chance gang and seven "pickpocket thieves" have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

This came just as the operatives recovered two 14- seater commercial buses marked KTU716XS and GGE532XL, allegedly used by the hoodlums for their operations along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

While the one-chance suspects were identified as Akeem Fatai (42,) Jerry Nwokoro ( 24), Olayinka Tadius (29), Lucky Thompson ( 36), Stanley Augustine ( 31), Ubah Kenneth (25), and Henry Ate (48),  the suspected pickpockets were Habib Nurudeen (17), Oyemi Ilesanmi (23), Kenneth Okojie (30), Chinedu Uzubi (24), Ajakaiye Christopher (26), Samson Uwaneze (23 ) and Wasiu Kazeem ( 24).

According to the police, most of the suspects were arrested in Ajegunle, where they used as their operational base.
The Nation gathered that their clampdown was sequel to the arrest of a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) executive, Kazeem Bamidele, who confessed to the police he has 52 boys engaged in one-chance and pickpocketing across the state.
Six of the suspects, the police said were nabbed at hotels in Ajegunle where they lodge, while others were arrested at different bus stops along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and Agege Motor Road.

Confessing to be a one-chance robber, Ate disclosed that they usually ran morning and evening shifts, adding that they retire to their hotels in the afternoon.

Ate explained that every one-chance team must have a driver, conductor and the picker, who usually sat at the rear of the bus.
