I can’t sell myself or my family to pay striking Ekiti workers – Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose has said he has no immediate solution to the demands of striking workers in Ekiti State, stressing that he cannot sell himself or his family to raise funds for the workers.

The governor said in a broadcast on Thursday that the workers must understand that strike was not an option and that the monthly wage bill was over N2bn but the state received as low as N751m in April.

He said, “Right now, I’m helpless. It is difficult to sell myself, my family or my property. I can only depend on what I get from Abuja. I want workers to understand that it is my priority to make them comfortable.

“Even before going on their strike, I got to know that many of them no longer come to office while many others were coming late to office. Why I refused to come hard on those involved was that I had no moral justification to do so since I knew we were owing them.

“I don’t have powers to go on strike, we shall be waiting till when they come back, but they must realise that strike is not the best option

“Even in Government House, we don’t have money to power generators with diesel, whereas, I cannot sell myself or members of my family to raise funds, things are that difficult,” Fayose said.

The NLC Chairman, Raymond Adesanmi, in an interview with our correspondent said there was no going back on the strike.

“We are not saying the government should pay all the money at once. What we are asking for is a commitment. There should be a structured plan of how to settle all the arrears. When government is ready to dialogue, we will be waiting,” Adesanmi said.

The organised labour in Ekiti on Thursday began an indefinite strike to press home the demand for the outstanding five months salaries of workers.

  1. The 'wisdom' of some political leaders is amazing. You owe 5 months salary & have a wage deficit of over a billion Naira but you are more interested in building an Airport. #Stay Guided

    1. Padrone, thanks for your comments. I read that on the other same news, there can't be a better response than these yours. Let that man sell himself and family, if only any sane person will want to buy such a character,

  2. If he can't sell himself, he should step down. What sort of leader cannot sacrifice himself for his people, yet he wants to rule them. EXTREMELY SELFISH COMMENT. And just like the poster above has said, he still wants to build an airport. For who to use, if not for the g**ls he would be importing from other state universities for his escapades.

This is what Ekiti people voted for. So, they must face the consequences.

Instead of this man sitting down with Agriculturalists to discuss ways forward, he is moving around serving beeans on the streets. Nigerians are importing Plantain Bananas from neighbouring countries and he is waiting for free money from Abuja.
Mr. Man, use your God given available resources to make your State great instead of fooling around criticising the President Buhari.

  10. Am surprised that those guys hailing Fayose whenever he insults President Buhari cannot comments on this. It's a pity the way few Nigerians reasons especially my Igbo people, praising a man for being stupid and now his stupidity is showing clearly you guys has kept quite, does that means he is right too in not paying workers their 5 months salaries. He has spent Ekiti State's money chasing shadows and insulting his father. Somebody who has being condemning President Buhari cannot pay workers their salaries for 5 months and the only thing he can't think of is that he cannot sale himself. Do you all see the kind of mentality Fayose have, he prefers to use the workers money to buy chicken and rice and share to them than paying them their salaries so that they will buy the chicken and rice themselves. Five months salary is not five days, how do he expect those families to take care of their responsibilities at home. But he want to build airport and flyover for Ekitikete. You are very selfish. And shame on you all that's praising him.Look at your action Governor?

  11. Thank you for ur writeup. He says is the senior gov..senior gov. Without single experience. where is WAZOBIA FM that make people praising him for condemning PMB and create disaffection among nigerians without managing his state. Enemy of Nigeria.

  12. He collected bail out from FG without proper utilisation of the fund and the deduction is hitting the lean federal allocation to the state. Where is the money? He will be running mouth and travelling wasteful to challenge the central government.

  13. Fayose if you know you cannot perform further then opt out.We clearly told you when you stole somebody's mandate the the joy will not last.Your copilot with instruction from uncle Jonathan will face the wrath of GOD.Obanikoro will soon be sent back to Nigeria on this issue. You are a liar to have said you don't have diesel to run generators in government house.God will judge you.Now the whole world have seen that you are a useless man having selfish interest as opposition leader saying things against the federal government.Clemo.

  14. In fact, I have to stop listening to Wazobia FM especially the OPJ show in the evening. I am always worried about the subjective comments of some of the presenters. A radio station that has diverse listeners should balance their political analysis if only to be fair to all.

  15. Cross River state Governor Ben Ayade paid May Salaries on the Fist of May, this means he has his priorities right. Fayose wants to be the Amaechi of today PDP, but he forgot that Rivers under Amaechi had oil and the crude oil then was going for $135 per barrel not the present $50 and below we are witnessing today, and Rivers monthly IGR from PH town alone would pay Ekiti workers for a year. See he cannot manage a state like Ekiti but you keep abusing a 75 year old man who is managing the entire country as clueless .... just beg for funds jare!!

  16. In a civilised society, Fayose would have resigned for making such a statement. It means he couldn't do anything so he would continue to owe his workers for more months. It also means he's not doing anything to find a solution, he's given up, but it's more important to him to sell beans by the roadside and buy pepper and tomatoes in the market. He's indirectly calling the Ekiti people fools, he knew they would cheer him for these nonsense. I don't pity them though, it what they wished themselves

  18. I think it is time to practise true federalism. Let every state be in control of her resources and pay tax to the federation account, manage her roads and other facilities.let's do away with land use act and oher laws giving over bearing power to the federal govt. Let each state look inward and improve on their I.G.R.

  20. IT IS BETTER TO DO SOMETHING WRONG THAN DOING NOTHING.......PEOPLE LEARN FROM DOING OR MISTAKE

Ogbeni Aregbe is far better than Fayose.
You can see the project he is doing even though he is owing salary but you can not see anything Fayose is doing or has done rather than STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT......this is the only project he has been commissioning so far.

He should be the one to resign now not Buhari.
BUHARI MAY HAVE MADE A WRONG POLICIES, STRATEGIES BUT IT IS FAR BETTER THAN FAYOSE STATEMENT........that is a statement of man with NO VISION
