Iwobi Will not be Prevented from Going to the Olympics - Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared that Alex Iwobi would not be prevented from playing at the Olympic football tournament in Rio, which runs from August 3 to August 20.

Though Arsenal could obstruct Iwobi’s participation in the competition, which falls outside FIFA’s calendar for international fixtures, Wenger has stated he has no intention of doing so.

“He had the choice between England and Nigeria and in the end he chose Nigeria,” Wenger told reporters ahead of Arsenal's clash against West Ham.

“We respect that, and also the possibility that he will go to the Olympic Games, and travel a bit more than he would have done here.”

Iwobi’s fine form over recent weeks for club and country and according to reports will be rewarded with a new contract that Wenger hopes will tie him to the club for his best years.
