Dortmund's Hummels Wants To Move To Bayern

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has submitted an official request to join rival club Bayern Munich next season, with negotiations over a transfer fee for the Germany international now expected to be finalised.

Earlier this week, Bayern chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, revealed that discussions with Hummels had already began over a summer move. A statement from Dortmund on Thursday confirmed that the 27-year-old has indicated his intention to depart the Westfalenstadion, although there still appears to be a stumbling block over his price.

“Defender Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund has communicated his desire to leave the club in the summer and wants to join the league rivals Bayern Munich next season,” read the statement on the club’s official website.

“Borussia Dortmund’s Board has subsequently decided to make such a change depending on whether Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund can agree a satisfactory fee. So far, Bayern Munich has not made an offer.”

The statement added: “As a precaution, it is pointed out that with Mats Hummels - as at present with all other players from Borussia Dortmund - no exit clause has been agreed and the player is logically tied to Borussia Dortmund until June 30, 2017.”

The news will come as a blow to a host of clubs who had wanted to sign Hummels, including Manchester United.
