FUEL CRISIS: I won’t resign – Kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, said on Tuesday in Abuja that he would not resign as he still had a lot of work to do.

The minister said this as part of his closing remarks while briefing the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream) on the lingering scarcity of petroleum products across the country.

Following the current fuel scarcity, and Mr. Kachikwu’s comment that he could not do magic to end the crisis, some groups including the South South APC, NANS and some Civil Society Organisations have called for the minister’s resignation.

“All those planning to come to Abuja for a protest should save their fuel, I am not going to resign, I have a lot of work to do,” the minister said.
According to the minister, he did not accept to be minister of petroleum in order to create scarcity.

The minister assured that he would work hard to find lasting solutions to the problems in the industry.

Mr. Kachikwu said he was pained as much as many Nigerians were that the country still suffered petroleum scarcity in spite of being one of the largest producers of crude oil in the world.

  4. Sorry o our hourable Oil Minister! Your earlier statement contradicted your position as The Minister in Charge "I am not a magician and therefore you would hold the country to ransom. Its a fact that the problem has occurred and as a matter of urgency should addressed. If not, your best bet must be the way out for a better solution. The sources of production are not dried and wondering why your statement. If your predecessors did well, then you must be ready to put in your best
