Court remands Lekki Gardens MD, contractor in custody

The Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court has remanded the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr. Nyong Richard, and a contractor, Odofin Taiwo, in police custody for their role in the collapse of a five-storey building in Lekki, Lagos.
The building, which was under construction had collapsed on Tuesday, killing 35 people and injuring several others.
Magistrate, Mrs. Afolashade Bokotu, ordered that Richard and Taiwo, who were brought to the court in handcuffs today morning should be kept in police custody at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba for the next 30 days, pending the conclusion of police investigation.

  1. All those government official in charge of the approval,supervision and certification of the building in Lagos state should all be arrested and prosecuted also. They are the main problem.

  2. This is clearly an arrangement to appear to be applying the full weight on them while actually giving them a soft landing. They should have been remanded in prison custody. They are obviously going to have an arrangement with the police to allow them to be going home at night while they sit in the DPO'S office in the day time when people are around. This is a slap in the wrist.

  3. I see no reason y the prophet should not be punish as well it's almost d same case here... Richard (Lekki garden) also gave out d building to the contractor so it's d contractor that is suppose to be crucified not Richard......if prophet that had building collapse and 116 people r died including people from south Africa is walking on the street free.....y will Richard will be remanded in jail.....#samecase.....and come to think of it thousands of people earn there daily mean thru this man call Richard......
