Fayose cautions Buhari over probe of military chief

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Weekend, advised President Muhammadu Buhari on his order for 18 Military Generals to be probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms deal.

Governor Fayose, who reacted to President Buhari’s order for the 18 serving and retired military chiefs to appear before the EFCC from Monday, through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the military officers ought to have been probed in accordance with the armed forces rules of engagement.

The governor, who reiterated his support for the fight against corruption, however, dismissed the $2.1 billion arms deal as a scam, noting that “all they are just doing is to brandish figures to deceive Nigerians and demonized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those opposed to
his dictatorship in the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“Till today, the amount they have charged people for stealing is not up to N10 billion and $2.1 billion they claimed was stolen is about N600 billion.

“The president must let Nigerians see where the arms deal is in the 2015 Budget and publish details of the imaginary $2.1 billion scam. Also, the President must tell Nigerians how his friend, Jafaru Isa was able to return N100 million to the EFCC within three days because there are insinuations that the N100 million refunded came from the Presidency.”

Fayose said it was strange for serving military generals to be interrogated by junior police officers, adding that “The president should not act in a way that he will be perceived as ridiculing the armed forces.”

He said: “Even though I am not a military officer, but I know that there is what us called orderly room trial or court martial, which military men who erred in the performance of their duties are made to go through. It is until they are found guilty and probably dismissed that they are made to face court trial.

“In this case, how does it feel for a serving Military General to be interrogated by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)?

“I think we should not destroy our democratic institutions, especially the judiciary and the armed forces because we are fighting corruption.

“Already, the President has ridiculed the judiciary by disobeying the courts and coming on television to say that orders oyf the court do not hold waters. He is also destroying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by turning it to commission for inconclusive elections. He should not ridicule the military, and men of goodwill should advise the President to thread cautiously.

“Also, the international community, especially the United States, United Kingdom and the United Nations should caution the President against actions capable of bringing down institutions of government under the guise of fighting corruption.”

  4. Fayose is exposing his ignorance again. Honestly, this guy just like to babble.
Most,if not all the generals are retired and as such can investigated by EFCC.
Fayose is so primitive and doesn't engage his brain before he opens his mouth.

    1. No sir that was in the 60s and 70s when the military was very powerful. Even Major's were executing coups. Now Major's are commandants at NYSC camp busy chasing corp memebers around. The ex chief's will be probed and nothing will happen. They treated their army poorly so they cannot ask the army to support them.

    3. What do you guys meant by saying the president want to ridicule them.. They are the one that ridicule the nation and the nation is above them. If a General compromise his status and join a civilian by ridiculing them by diverting the fund that is meant to procure weapon to there pocket then who is ridiculing who. At this point iIdnt expect anybody to support these corrupt old fool we shld support the president in this fight

  8. When a state produces so much profs and allow a thug to preside over her affairs, what an irony. It shows clearly that Ekitis' academic achievement amounts to nothing if a half baked, unrefined, unintelligent and a nonentity could be voted for. There is no know clown that compares with Fayose. A Governor who even tells the world that his mother uses pampers. I wonder why her so called born again wife and children cope with his display of madness. Ekitis reminds one of the practice of govt of the mad by the mad for the mad

  9. Don't take that hypocrite for a fool oOo. He knows what he's doing. I guess all he's tryin to do is to give the military an impression of backing out of GMb's government just to distabilise everything. But ALLAH will not grant that wish. Ameeen

  10. Fayose has made a valid point which PMB should really look into and reconsider his directives. The military is an institution that has all it takes to try those generals and bring them to book but by asking EFCC to probe them , he is relegating the military institution and d consequences of that if I may say is dangerous.

  13. Whenever a criminal cries fool of an investigation, one need not be told that he has a hand in the crime. Let someone remind the governor to please explain the N2b given to him for the same reason others that have been mentioned so far in the Dasukigate scam.

  14. Fayose maybe INTELLECTUALLY HOLLOW, but he is CRIMINALLY INTELLIGENT. To get a sneak preview into Fayose's decrepit brain to understand his seemingly psychotic behavior, one has to read between the lines to de-encrypt his warped logic. Fayose seem to be firing on all cylinders attacking PMB for beaming his search lights on the corrupt segments of the Nigerian Military, but his recent outburst is not without a reason, knowing fully well that sooner or later his involvement with the a section of the amoral military echelon will come to the fore. So like Olisa Metuh and Fani Kayode their logic is that "attack is the best form of defense"...so they think by attacking PMB anti-corruption fight. However, their efforts will be in futility as President Buhari's will and resolve to route all these "maggots and leeches" that have bled us dry remains unshaken.

  15. What useful advice can a foe give to his target? What advice can a trickster, with zero credibility offer? Although people wonder why a character such as this man should emerge as the governor of a people rich in intellectual, the pity of it is that he was imposed on the people by GEJ at the primaries and from there managed to rise through his craftiness and rigging methods characteristic of Nigerian politics.

  16. I always wonder what Fayose is saying.....even though he made some senses but we don't need him, he used military forces to become the governor. I know Baba Iyabo will just be laughing and if Baba just sneeze pere!!!!!!!!! Gbombe.....
