Drama as Governor Fayose arrests FRSC personnel for traffic offence

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, was involved in another drama on Thursday when he arrested an officer of the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) in Ikere Ekiti for driving against traffic.

Fayose personally arrested the FRSC officer while on his way to the flag off of dualization of the Ado-Ikere-Ondo State boundary road and commissioning of some projects in Ikere town as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.

The FRSC officer whose name was given as Adeola Alabi left the bad portion of the road for the other lane and drove against traffic to avoid potholes and reconnect the lane he was before.

The incident which happened at Sawmill area of Ikere Ekiti caused traffic snarl as some residents came out to watch the drama.

Alabi’s action infuriated Fayose who ordered security operatives in his convoy to ensure the road safety officer was apprehended.

After he was arrested, Alabi prostrated before Fayose, begging the governor to have mercy on him.

The governor did not listen to his pleas, maintaining that law must take its course.

Fayose ordered that the Peugeot 505 Saloon car driven by Alabi should be seized and taken to the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA) yard.

The culprit is expected to cough out N50,000 as fine for driving against traffic.

  1. Nigerianeye are your editors and newsmen out of jobs??? what exactly are you trying to achieve by choking readers with news of Fayose at every turn. It's on record he remains the most vocal and noticeable voice of the PDP government and not of your paymasters-APC,we know that. By subtly trying to solicit public condemnation of every thing he does only proves how shallow your whole editoral board really is!!! SHAME!!!

  9. There should not b any excuse for breaking the law especially by people expected to keep it. Is it bcos he is a road safety personnel? Supposing u (all those saying they should let him be) guys are d one that did that and the road safety guy saw u, won't he stop u? He will also tell u that pot hole is not a reason for breaking the law. Yes, he is not the first to do that bt he is d first that d Gov. is seeing and most especially, d fact that he is a law maker that is not going for an urgent duty makes it more annoying. At least after facing d law now, he would face defaulters and so, pple will start obeying traffic rules and Nigeria will start becoming civilised.

  10. How we are blinded by party affiliation, dnt see anything wrong with what the governor did, two months ago saw few police men in hilux caused accident a young lady that left her house lost both legs b4 my eyes. If the obeyed traffic rules that lady's life will still be meaningful. The same reason a military man will pull a gun and kill unarmed civilian and we feel it's cool. The earlier our uniform men starts obeying the law the better for everybody. APC or PDP nobody is above the law. That you dnt like the man shldnt blind you to when he did the right thing.

  12. i wonder what kind of people we have. anyway its good that we have ds platform. but it portrays our reasoning level and how we address issues objectively. i wonder..... Fayose shld do d needsful...Being an officer shld not make u abuse ur status......I hope other Governors could emulate same as Fashola did in Lagos bit Akin Ambode cowardly ran away from dealing with one. God sees it all.

  14. I Think it is wrong for the FRSC to drive contrary to the traffic weather there are pot holes or not. But I am just thinking if that is what we actually employed these Governors to do. I think the Governor can better deal with the problem in a different kind of way. All these are just drama causing situations and attention seeking conditions, and we need our Governors for better things than this. They shouldn't become the police, the prosecutor, and the judge at the same time. What is the Governor going to say before the judge? Or is the offender not going to see a judge before being made to pay any fine? Is the Governor going to be the witness? Yes, definitely the FRSC especially being a law enforcer should be made to pay but I just don't know if it's worth the time of the Governor to do that. He could arrest the FRSC indirectly by fixing the roads. But I think the Governor Fayose's case is better than the Governor Ambode's case in which he personally went to face the driver one on one and got him arrested. That is having some guts. Well, be blessed Governor Fayose but please fix our ROADS rather than pursuing the traffic law breakers on the streets, in my own judgment. God bless Ekiti State IJN. Please forgive me for any mistakes therein. RADEO 11102015 @ 3:31 am.
