Okonjo-Iweala replies Oshiomole - 'I didn’t withdraw $1 Billion for Jonathan’s campaign'

The immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Monday denied withdrawing $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to finance the campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement by her Media Adviser, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, the former finance minister described the allegation by Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State that she spent $1bn out of the ECA to fund the re-election bid of Jonathan as a “ludicrously false statement that has unfortunately become a trademark of the Governor in his public campaign of falsehood.”

The statement said the comment by the governor was “just another example of the numerical diarrhea that seems to have afflicted His Excellency in recent times in his effort to damage the reputation of the former minister.”

It reads in part, “He has, within the last few months, asked Dr Okonjo-Iweala to explain all kinds of totally wild and unsubstantiated figures, ranging from $30bn, $20bn, $2.1bn, N720bn and now $1bn.

“To say the obvious, the accusations are totally lacking in credibility. Governor Oshiomhole’s published comments also contain other falsehoods.

“For instance, he quoted Dr Okonjo-Iweala as saying that she and the Finance Commissioners of the 36 states approved the spending of $2.1bn out of the Excess Crude Account, adding that the Commissioners had disowned the statement. This is also a complete distortion.

“Dr Okonjo-Iweala never said the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee approved spending out of the ECA. Rather as the Commissioners themselves stated, the former Minister of State Finance informed them that former President Jonathan approved the expenditure to end the debilitating fuel queues across the country.”

The statement said the Finance Ministry under Okonjo-Iweala regularly published details of revenue allocations from the ECA in national media.

“Oshiomhole’s tortured ‘calculations’, based on his ‘four figure tables’, are mere political numbers conjured to achieve a political purpose. Nigerians can see through the elaborate antics,” she said.

  1. Woman why don't you give your own calculation when you think is calculation is false. You are defending yourself but you cannot pinpoint the accuracy of your own argument. It is obvious you don't have anything to say. If I were you I will keep quiet to avoid contradicting yourself just like you have done in the past few weeks. You are a liar and a thief, its obvious to the blind. You have added another version. I just pray that justice will be done, THIEF, OLE...

  2. But this same media adviser to okonjo same that the $2.1b was withdraw at the instruction of GEJ for payment of subsidy.
I think her problem start from her inability and refusal to have defended herself with facts and figures from the committee with all excuses that she was sick at every point in time including budget

  3. It is not enough for this woman to just use insulting words on Oshiomole. She should simply address the issue. She has not given us a credible story around the $2.1b that disappeared from the Excess Crude Account between September 2014 and March 2015. If indeed as she claimed it was used for subsidy, how come the marketers still went on strike for non-payment of the subsidy debt?

    1. Can the marketers keep quiet where there is no evidence of receiving such payments? Oshiomole is crying because she brought transparency into the system.

    2. Transparency indeed! I see you are really a close relative. U are the the same person on reply to the first comment. Can't u just see the comments are simply for her to give concrete details of what she is been accused of? Where are u from self.

    3. Some of you being bias in your analysisvof event here. You were asking of figures and this woman is saying is saying there is a detail publication of the revenue allocation. What again again do you want her to do? Lets not make her an escape goat for the failure of aJonathan administration, the failures and rot we see includes even the Governors. Someone that left all the pretty women we have here and went and marry a queen from another Country what example is he showing us here? He is just showing off and trying to settle score with this woman. Look at the numerous figures he has mentioned in the past and he kept changing it.

  4. Oshiomhole’s tutored ‘calculations’, were based on his ‘four figure tables’, which are mere political numbers conjured to achieve a political purpose. This is a statement of fact about Adam Oshiomhole
