Amaechi behind REC’s arrest - Family

The family of the embattled Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, has accused former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, of being behind the arrest of Khan by the Department of State Services.

Khan’s family, from Peretoru in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, made the allegation in a statement on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

The statement was signed by the family spokesperson, Okubama Johnbull.

It alleged that information at its disposal revealed that it was after Amaechi visited the Director General of the
DSS that Khan was arrested.

The family said, “We, as a responsible family, know where this onslaught is coming from.

“We have it on good authority that it was the visit of the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, to the DSS Director, that prompted the invitation of Mrs. Khan.”

The Khan’s family decried what it described as the arrest, detention, harassment and intimidation of the REC over her role in the last elections in Rivers.

It also alleged that the REC was being forced “to write an undertaking to turn the results of the Rivers State general elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party at the national level.”

The family wondered why the DSS would single her out for victimisation and intimidation when matters concerning the last general elections were being handled by election petition tribunals.

It further expressed concern that Khan “who is diagnosed of hypertension and diabetics,” had been denied her medication in detention, a development it claimed, was affecting her health.

The family appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene and caution the DSS to allow due process and the rule of law to prevail in Khan’s travail.

It also called on human rights organisations and public-spirited individuals to come to her aide, insisting that Khan’s arrest and detention were not lawful.

    1. Exactly 2 months After the new government May 29th to today July 29th, Nigerians want Miracle, I think the Arabian Aladin magic genre lateen tale was only a tale of fiction, may be most of you really have been watching these fictitious movies lately, please come out of your dream...let us stop all these pull down mentality and sentiment as a way of life as citizens of this country then we can move ahead; the man Goodluck Jonathan was a good man, but persons he surrounds himself with, people he trusted were people that ruin his administration, up till this moment no link from anywhere to his person on any stolen funds but his ministers, aids, governors and friends have all been indicted I stand to be corrected. So if we have gotten somebody who is firmer and ready to clean this system for us as Nigerians why not we give him the support and time to settle down and do this job for all of us as a neutral this is my perspective; criticism is allowed but we should be humane and constructive in our criticism, a lot of clean-up is required to get Nigerian back on track, It might seem slow but with the support of Nigerians the future is bright for all of us, it is good we have a viral opposition that have been in government for 16 years and the followership is still very visible and fertile in terms of finances, all good for growth but it is good to allow for glaring gaps to be noticed b4 you exploit them or else your criticism would begins to make the ruling party even more focus and endear them into the harts of Nigerians, thereby play your party out of future political context...God bless the Federal republic of Nigeria

    2. You must be out of your mind to expect this illiterate former dictator and HYPOCRITE to be the one to cleanse Nigeria. A senile buffoon who refers to Germany as West Germany and her chancellor Merkel as president Michelle???? A HYPOCRITE who rose to power on corrupt money yet claiming to be a saint? An INCOMPETENT man who has spent the last 3 decades in retirement who can't even boast of ONE O level CANNOT take Nigeria anywhere! This is a tried, tested and FAILED man who crashed Nigeria's economy in 1983 and turned Nigerians into refugees in their own country queuing for bread, milk and omo. Buhari belongs in a HOSPICE not the seat of power! Anyone who thinks otherwise needs his head examined! ONLY a FOOL will celebrate leadership from a FOOL!

The way things are going, i will soon contest elections because i may not need millions to win.
