Adamawa gov’s wife holds Sallah party for IDPs

Wife of Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Jibrilla, on Sunday organised a Sallah party for the Internally Displaced Persons in Malkohi Camp near Yola.

Addressing the IDPs during the Sunday party, Jibrilla said the gesture was to give them a sense of belonging and make them feel at home.

“We want to put in your minds the sense of belonging having suffered alienation and total breach of your fundamental rights to living in places of your choices due to ugly events of the past months,” Jibrilla said.

She urged them not to lose hope, assuring that this administration was committed to their safety and welfare.

“It is in this regard that I urge you all not to fall prey to agents of destabilisation who may want to take advantage of your unfortunate situation to further sow the seeds of discord amongst you,” Jibrilla said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Maisaratu Bello, reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of the IDPs, particularly the vulnerable ones comprising women and children.

Responding on behalf of the IDPs, the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Haruna Furo, thanked the governor’s wife for the party and donation of food and other materials to IDPs.

Furo, who urged others to emulate the gesture, said ADSEMA and NEMA along side other organisations were steadfast in ensuring the welfare of the IDPs in various camps in the state.

He, however, assured that the materials donated by the governor’s wife would be judiciously utilised to ensure that the IDPs enjoyed during the festive period of Eid-El Fitr celebration.
