Police uncover baby factory in Abia

Imo State police command has uncovered a baby factory at Mbutu, Isiala Ngwa South local government area of Abia State, and arrested the proprietor, Chief Emmanuel Eke.

The police similarly picked up some young pregnant ladies, including a deaf and dumb, from the filthy Isiala Ngwa South baby factory.

Briefing journalists in Owerri after the successful operation, the Police Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, gave the name of the pregnant deaf and dumb lady as Miss Blessing Nwabeke.

“The pregnant deaf and dumb lady, who could not mention her age and address was however identified as Miss Blessing Nwabeke,” the PPRO said.

According to Mr. Enwerem, other expectant mothers picked up in the baby factory include 23-year-old Miss Nkasiobi Uchenna from Nkwuegwu Umuahia, Miss Oluchi Victor, 25, from Isiala Ngwa, and Miss Ela David, 24, from Isoko in Delta State.

Giving a graphic account of how the police stumbled on the baby factory and child-trafficking syndicate, the PPRO said Chief Eke was arrested following a credible tip off.

“A pregnant 20-year-old Miss Ibuchi Okafor from Ihioma, Orlu local government area of Imo State, disappeared from their family home and after spending some time in an undisclosed place, she returned without the expected baby. This development generated a lot of curiosity in the family,” the PPRO recounted.

Suspecting that Ibuchi must have sold her baby, the family reported the matter to the police and on interrogation, the girl told her interrogators that she was successfully delivered of a baby boy at the home of Chief Eke, who later sold the baby to an unknown buyer for N500,000.

“As a follow up, operatives of the Police Command stormed the home of Chief Emmanuel Eke where other pregnant ladies believed to be producing babies for sale were arrested,” the PPRO said.
