PDP afraid of playing opposition role – APC

The All Progressives Congress has accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party of being afraid of playing the role of the opposition party in the country.

It said this was the reason why its members had been busy defecting after losing the March 28 presidential election.

The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who disclosed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday, said his party was not interested in depleting the PDP.

Mohammed was asked to react to the defection of members of the ruling party to the APC since it won the presidential election and majority of seats in the National Assembly.

Apart from this, the APC also won governorship elections in 13 states while the PDP was victorious in just seven states in the election conducted on April 11 by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Mohammed was asked if the defection would not destabilise the PDP as being alleged by the national leaders of the ruling party.

He said, “We are not asking them to join us. They were the ones rushing to join us. We don’t want them. They should stay in their party.

“I think the party and its members are afraid of playing opposition role. They shouldn’t after all, we played it for 16 years. It is the turn of the PDP to play the role from May 29.”

Mohammed said members of the PDP should take the advice given by the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and the APC Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, seriously.

The two leaders had called on defectors from the ruling party to stay behind and rebuild their once-vibrant party.

  3. We don't pray for your type of opposition in this country anymore. You guys have won,and you need to concentrate more on how to deliver on so many exaggerated promises you many during your journey to your current success.
Your primary assignment is to deliver good governance to the populace, and not party rivalry.
Propaganda should be on leave, now that you have won.
