Ondo deputy gov’s impeachment notice a nullity – APC

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has described as null and void, the impeachment notice served on the Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, who defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party two days to the March 28 presidential election.

The APC in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, said Olanusi could not have been served an impeachment notice on Monday since Olanusi had gone on a routine checkup since Saturday.

He explained that the law stipulates that an impeachment notice can only be served in person and not in absentia.

The statement read, “We are aware of the purported impeachment notice served on the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, by the Ondo State House of Assembly. The deputy governor had written to the Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Friday April 17, 2015, with Ref. No. OBG/A/136/67, that he would be going on a routine medical checkup outside the country.

“Baba (Olanusi) had since travelled out on Saturday April 18, 2015. So, it is laughable for the ‘rubber-stamp’ House of Assembly to have claimed it had served the deputy governor an impeachment notice, knowing that the law does not permit one to serve an impeachment notice in absentia. The notice is a nullity.”
