I stand by my words, Buhari has no WASC certificate - Doyin Okupe

The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has said that he stands by his words that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, is not an electable leader.

Many critics of the All Progressives Congress candidate, including the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who, in the buildup to the March 28 presidential election, condemned Buhari, had subsequently apologised after he won the election.

But Okupe, on Monday said he would stand by his words that Buhari, who he said had no West African Senior School Certificate, was not eligible to contest for President.

He stated on his official Facebook page, “These are very interesting times in our nation. An election has come and gone. A victor has emerged and the loser has conceded.

“Yet some of our folks are behaving as if we have just gone through a war between two hostile nations. The APC agents all over the place are unrelenting in their tirades of abuses, insults and lies against President Goodluck Jonathan, his aides and supporters.

“It is shameful that we are still saddled with denying falsehood and fabrications in the social media and even by hitherto highly respected newspapers.

“Missing $20bn found in an account in Zenith. PGEJ returns tons of dollars to federation accounts. N2tn spent on elections by PGEJ. Okupe says Chibok girls will not be found. How many lies, deliberate falsehood and evil propaganda, outright curses and attacks must we suffer just because we lost an election in which we were never disgraced?

“Buhari polled 15m (56 per cent) while Jonathan scored 12m (46per cent). Those who talk to us disparagingly should respect the sentiments of the 12m Nigerians who voted for Jonathan.

“Of course, we have our reservations about the results but we will pass on that for now. We have lost this election but this is not and can never be a crime. We are all Nigerians and having lost does not make us less. We should be allowed to bow out peacefully and constitutionally on the 29th of May.

“Yes, I said Buhari was not electable. I also said his victory will not happen. I said and I still insist that Buhari has no WASC certificate. I said a lot of things to promote my candidate and many things to put his opponent down.

“I have no regrets for any of the statements I made. Lai Mohammed said worse. This is the nature of politics. For anyone who cares to listen. We will be back, period.”

  1. What have u achieved with ur own medical certificate? If someone without a shoe can rule us then someone without a certificate can also rule. Chop chop is over come back home. All your talks, u couldn't use it to improve your state.

  2. Papa Ajasco, incase you didn't hear, the military released his certificate after the election. Stop being a cry baby. I would like to see your bosses PhD thesis if one does exist!

    1. The constitution says the presidential candidate should have a "minimum of WASC or its equivalent". You people are mischievously misreading what it says. If someone has been through all those military trainings, and attended and graduated from the American War College, does he meet the constitutional requirement? If you want, you can go to court to contest whether those military trainings are higher than WASC or not. That should be the issue, not whether he has WASC in particular.

  3. It just sound so stupid to me, how can someone graduate from a College of Education without WAEC cert. Not to talk about a RTD General???

    1. Of course it is obvious that these are mischief makers. What I find disappointing is that the current military leadership did not see it as an insult to the entire Nigerian military. They thought it was about Buhari, but really it was an insult to the Nigerian military.

  4. The issue of Buhari's WASC as an educational requirement for election as a President of this country should not have even been an issue, given the fact that he has much higher qualifications than that of WASC and has once been the Head of State of this country. If Nigerian politicians are not mischievous, the issue should not have come up at all. It is a national disgrace!

Having said that I want to appeal to the APC to let sleeping dogs lie for purposes of moving this country forward. The Elections have been won and lost and so what does the APC want again by still casting insultive words against the present administration? Is that the way to move this country forward?

There are many unanswered questions concerning the conduct of the election by INEC. Why did the PVCs had a better distribution rate even in states where the Boko Haram insurgency was more pronounced than in the South where there was calm? Even before the March 28 date, most States in the South were still complaining of not receiving all the PVCs meant for those States, yet in the North, there was little or no complaints concerning this issue, as most of the Northern States seem to have got all, if not, majority of the PVCs. Why did the card readers had a high malfunctioning rate in the South than in the North? Are we saying that there were no voidable votes in States like Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, even Borno, Yobe, etc where the figures in favour of APC were more than a million votes in each of these states? Was there no element of rigging at all in all these states? If APC won, there is no rigging, but when PDP wins, the election was rigged.
Why? Why? Indeed, a lot of water has passed under the bridge, so let the APC stop castigating or casting provocative statements further on the current administration. Let them face the big challenge ahead - to deliver on their electoral promises.
If they want to probe those whose hands are soiled, all well and good, let them go ahead, using the normal process of law. Enough of calling names or calling a dog a bad name just to get it hanged.

The PDP has graciously conceded defeat, eventhough the results in some states, they believe, are worth contesting, but for peace to reign in the country, they have jettisoned all that, so what does the APC want again?

All what Nigerians are expecting from the new administration is good governance, devoid of witchhunting of perceived political opponents and delivering of dividends of democracy to the people who have massively voted them into power. Remember, four years is not far and the electorate is watching. Thank God that the vote of the ordinary Nigerian can now count, meaning that the electorate now has the power to vote out a non-performing government and vote-in a new administration they believe would deliver dividends of democracy. So, APC beware. Do not forget that you were once in the opposition. PDP never thought they would be in the opposition today, so, beware.

  5. Mr Okupe, you ridiculed yourself when you make the WASC issue a key campaign point. If you had read the constitution accurately you would have seen that being a presidential candidate it does not require the WASC certificate in particular, but a minimum of WASC or its equivalent. You could have gone to court to determine whether the trainings and certifications of a military General are at least equivalent to WASC. But you became unintelligent when you got fixated on WASC. There were other PDP promoters that showed better intelligence than you. You can arrogantly say you stand by whatever you said, but I tell you, you are several inches smaller than you were in the eyes of Nigerians.

    1. Thank you my friend. Okupe needs to read what happens to people like him. Remember Linda Tripp - the lady that engineered the Monica Lewinski scandal by teaching the young lady how to implicate and bring down President Clinton? About two years after that saga, there was an opinion poll in the United States. Linda Tripp was among the top 10 most hated persons in the United States. Also, do you recall Kenneth Starr in that same saga? He was having a go at Clinton because Clinton's victory robbed him (Ken Starr) of becoming a Supreme Court judge. Do you hear of Kenneth Starr any more? That is what happens to those that are politically mischievous. They eventually disappear into oblivion.

  6. 70% of PDP votes were mass-thumb printed+ 20% from those ignoramus they succeeded in confusing+ 10% from chop-chop devotees. Period. No ideology no commitment. Permanently dead party. Likes of DO are professionals in seeking attention. Nigeria is moving on.

  7. Doyin Okupe's case is pathetic. He should go back to his medical practice if he still remembers what to do. I sympatize with him. The days of cheap money are gone and gone for ever.

  9. What do you expect from a military that has been infiltrated by greed and laziness. It is only in Nigeria that you will see a General kneeling down to a common Major all because he wants his life to be spared (Talking of Diya kneeling to Mustapha), its only in Nigeria also that you see a General begging a civilian for promotion (talking of the Ekitigate released rigging audio tape). Our Military is so so corrupt, today they will say this and tomorrow its another thing. And for Doyin or whatever he is called, I know is type, if by chance he gets a political appointment in this new government (which i doubt) he would sing another song. Africa really needs to wake up, we have sold our birthright for far too long.

  10. How does Doyin Okupe arrive at 15m (56 percent) 12m (46 percent) in his write up? This guy is so confused he can't do simple arithmetic again!!! That is what happens to those who thrives on friviolities instead of ideas, they loose focus with time. Nigerians should please ignore D. O and focus on how we can revamp the economy.
