How would you score former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba?

Dear readers, how would you score former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba?

President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba with immediate effect but reasons for relieving him of his duties were not given by the Presidency. Was it political or because he did not deliver?

In the maiden speech by Abba, he promised to change the police force and give it a more professional look but has he delivered his promises? Be the judge of Abba’s time as IG.

Delivering his maiden speech at a handover ceremony at the force headquarters in Abuja on Friday, Abba observed that visions and missions of different administrations of the Nigeria police had been personalised, but he promised to make a clear departure from this trend.

“We will come up with visions that are not personalised. The focus of my leadership is attitudinal change, because you cannot reform an institution if you do not reform the people,” Abba said.

“We will make sure officers conform to values and standards of the Nigeria police. We will have an ethical code of conduct that will guide officers and that will help us achieve our objective. He said his administration would do anything required to halt violent crimes.

“We will continue to do community policing. We are not there yet, but we will ensure that we satisfy Nigerians. My experience teaches me that policing has changed.

Policing is no more about arresting, investigating and prosecuting only. The responsibility of the police transcends these traditional roles to expectations in ensuring stable democracy for good governance and providing basic service delivery for the people of our country.”

Abba further said his administration would not reinvent the wheel, but would build on the successes of his predecessor. He thanked President Jonathan for placing confidence in him and granting him the opportunity to serve Nigeria as IGP.

Reiterating his assurance of ensuring the safety of citizens, he called on Nigerians to cooperate with the police in the service of the country.

  2. He deserved what he got. Any public officer who rather chooses to be personal officer of the person(s) in power will always end this way. Abba has unfortunately open another nomenclature in our dear country. So everyone should be careful to be given the Abba treatment! I dey laugh ooo

  3. He got what he deserved. Hopefully this serves as a lesson for others. Your loyalty should always be to the people, not to the man that appointed you. All decisions must be guided by principle, not by what your master wanted. Abba chose to serve Jonathan and PDP and when they didn't need him anymore, they got rid of him. End of story.
However, I feel sorry for the newly appointed gentleman. Jona should not choose police IG for Buhari. So, I figure he will be replaced within a month or so by Buhari. Blame GEJ for putting this guy in an uncomfortable position.

  4. Abba, habba! see how they repaid you after they have used you, they just dumped you like a wet tissue paper! The carreer you have used your entire life and time to build, see how they help you to destroy it without thinking of the good old days you have served them instead of serving the nation. This is a lesson for your type that are still in the force or in one public office or the other. Anyway, go and spend all the monies you collected from those dirty jobs you have helped them to deliver! but remember, if you helped them to facilitate the killing of any nigerian, the sword is dangling on your household.

  5. Just like his employer, he failed. Let him go to his village in Jigawa State, while GEJ goes back to Otuoke in Bayelsa. I'm sure they have removed all their belongings in Aso-Rock? Please lets have a serious minded govt that knows the yearnings of the people. Choi! I just can't wait for May 29. O.J

  6. Every opportunity lies in doing ordinary things well..it is the politicians that brought police men as their property..3or4 police men following one person. his wife and children day and night with the connection at the top.their ogas.when they need them in our communities to arrest the criminals..if they wine and dine with them and later rubish them..it is left for them to have second thought on their profession. After all many of them read more than the politicians.. but money..money.. money.made them look like unprofessional
