Political thugs snatch 6 ballot boxes in Akure

A group of political thugs numbering 10 people, on Saturday evening, reportedly snatched six ballot boxes at the conclusion of voting at Unit 5, Ward 9, Akure-South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

NE gathered that polling officials were counting the ballots at the unit which had two voting points when the hoodlums appeared.

An ad hoc staff of INEC said the hoodlums came, brandishing bottles and machetes, and scared away voters.

She said the three security personnel around could not stop them as they disappeared into a nearby corner.

Voters were said to have scampered to safety, as the armed men moved the boxes away from the unit, which was believed to be favouring the APC.

When contacted, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, said he had yet to be briefed on the development.

According to him, he was hearing the report first from our correspondent and would verify it.
