Nigerian troops will recover more towns very soon - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said he was confident that Nigerian troops will maintain the momentum they have built up in ongoing operations against Boko Haram sect in the North Eastern part of the country.

He expressed the optimism that the military would soon recover more occupied territory from the terrorist group.

Jonathan made the commitment while granting audience to the outgoing French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Jacques Champagne De Labriolle, inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja shortly before he embarked on a two-day visit to Delta State.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said the officers and men of the Nigerian Army he met on the frontline in Borno and Adamawa states on Thursday were in high spirits, well prepared and determined to successfully complete their operations against Boko Haram.

“We have already recovered much territory and very soon our troops will clear the terrorists out of other areas not presently under our control,’’ the President reportedly assured the French Ambassador.

Welcoming a congratulatory message from President Francois Hollande to Nigeria for recent successes of its armed forces against Boko Haram, Jonathan restated Nigeria’s appreciation of France’s support for Nigeria and its neighbours in the fight against terrorism.

He commended Hollande for organising the Paris Summit of Heads of State of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Cameroon, Niger and Chad in May 2014 to foster greater regional cooperation against terrorism and insurgency.

The President pledged that beyond the ongoing military campaign in the North East, Nigeria will continue to implement all agreements reached at the summit to ensure lasting peace and security within its borders and in neighbouring countries.

Jonathan also seized the opportunity of the audience with the envoy to reassure the international community of his commitment to free, fair and credible polls in the country next month.

The President wished the outgoing ambassador well in his future endeavours and urged him to always be a “good ambassador of Nigeria’’.

In his remarks, Labriolle said France was “confident in the future of Nigeria and its ability to continue playing a huge role in Africa and world affairs.”

The ambassador also expressed delight at improved trade and economic ties between Nigeria and France in the last three years, noting that over 250 French companies are currently operating in Nigeria.

  1. These gimmicks will not change any thing. The country must reject the leadership of a man who knows nothing but the language of corruption. Jonathan is not the right person for the country, because of his corruption tendencies. Riding in an armored personnel carrier while wearing a military fatigue is nothing but deception. He can't lead this country. He is too corrupt.

  2. What did u fool know about corruption, APC dog

  3. why do u people attack the truth? Ever since Boko haram's intense attack has been there, our president didn't show up.. Why is it that it's close to election that he is now doing exactly what my first comrade's comment is doing? Lets shed away political influences and see the current situation in nigeria. Would you rather put your friends in your company's business rather than competent individuals that will make your company achieve its goals and objectives? The profit? that is nigeria now for you.. Look at the dollar now, the oil saga, power, immunity of controversial political heads and provoking comments from everyone, including buhari himself, in the past and yet no one has been prosecuted for all these.. including the pig-like asari..

Please my brothers and sisters let us make nigeria the true giant of africa and leader. We need to be on the same level as the americans who we cling to for support, or our other big brother, the brits.. Lets shun corruption. Bribes is a temporary thing that will expire in a very short time, which will bring us back to suffering..
Rather lets invest in something long lasting helping each other achieve something WE ALL WILL ENJOY!!!
I love Nigeria, my fellow brothers and sisters and i love africa..1 love

  4. Xavier this is a very good write up but the change we deserve can never come from APC talk less of Buharis who is too sick to even think well . My take on this is that Corruption has been there more than 50 years ago , even when Buhari was 43 yrs old when committed coup that austed Shagariis demochemic govermnment his slogan was Change and the fight was on corruption, yet he did not succeeeed instead he became more corrupt by giving his own company APC( Africa Project Consortum, ) contract of $189 .000,000,000 how can you comprehend this even if for aguement sake Buhari is not corrupt, he alone can not do it, He is surround by a lot of corrupt people like Tinubu , Amechi, Rochas, Fashola Atuku , and a host of others GEJ is doing a lot of things for Nigeria ,give him chance to at list implement the report of constitution Confrence. That alone will put Nigetia on the right track

    1. Thank you my brother... i do understand what you are saying.. But have you looked into the past corruption charges set by those working under President Jonathan? His controversy has been active ever since WE put him in power, i highlighted the WE cuz i was behind him like an iroko tree when he was to be the president then. first missing money, then ministers being reckless in spending, any advice is labelled as an opposing idea to bring down his regime, the economy, the lies he keeps on telling us in the media etc? i mean, would you trust someone who says the sky is red while you have your own eyes to see that its very much blue with no hint of red? He is surrounded by many controversial people. e.g Madam Ngozi, Oga Police Mbu, Mr Doyin just to mention a few. There is a bible adage that says, providing you are a christian my brother/sister, show me your friends and i will show you who you are.. I would not doubt that his administration has done his work and kudus to it.. but the economy is in shambles...

Apc on the other hand, pls lets compare the states they are in, ibadan, lagos for example, i barely could recognize the state cuz these people are doing so well.. i don't like Mr Tinubu so much but i admire Mr fashola..Bottom line is, lets look at the results to judge our vote or support.. PS: Do not forget our power promise to give us steady lights/electricity, and yet, whats the story today? No matter what step you take i'd still have strong love for you all. As we all re like a family, some siblings might not really be fond of each other but WE ARE STILL A FAMILY OUR NAME NIGERIA SHOULD HOLD NO MATTER!!!! LETS BE WISE!

    2. Xavier, the President has done well by privatizing the power sector. For example the power assets in Lagos and Egbin are partly owned by the Lagos State Govt and power will improve anyway whether the President continues or hands over. Power takes at least 18 months to improve because of the infrsatucture that have to be put in place unlike telecoms that can start operating once you put a new telephone exchange in place. Okonjo Iweala has also done very well contrary to all propaganda by concentrating development from the root up, rather than cosmetic surgery. Nigeria needs a better road network and rail system to move farm products cheaply from one part of the country to another. This also preserves the roads being completely reconstructed rather than window dressing. An area that is important is this petroleum subsidy which he plans to remove. It has been and will continue to breed corruption if you don't deregulate the petroleum sector, but the Senate and House of Reps have refused to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill which would lead to transparency in the Petroleum sector. Lack of Education in the north is the major cause of the ease of recruitment for Boko Haram, he built Al majiri schools that will allow them learn Arabic, but also teach them Chemistry Biology English Maths etc at the same time. These should have been addressed by the affected State Governments. There have been a lot of achievements by the President and we need to give him credit even if we decide not to vote for him. Apart from that, this government has not been more corrupt than any other government, it is only more transparent and that is why every one knows it's expenditure. No body has ever known what most state governments spend on any project!

  5. Dedevi thanks , in addition to what Dedevi said, there has been a lot of improvement in agriculture, the 40 yrs fertilizer fraud has been banished people now get fertilizer by mere using telephone, the issue of power would have Since been resolved but because of vandalisation of gas lines, This government has produced more than doubled what Nigeria. was using before but the consumption is so high by the number of industries we have now, the number of telephone lines people have now which most nigerians have 2 to 3 phones which they charge every day . All these consume electricity. By the argument you raise about Fashola, yes I agree Fashola did well but he is the most indebted owing about N6b who will pay these debt? And who knows by how much the contract was awarded and the resultant kickback, my brother lets tell ourselves the truth, APC and Buhari is not the Angel that will save this nation. I Plead with your good judgement to vote for GEJ if not for anything for the bold step to delve into National Conference lets allow him to implement it. God bless Nigeria
