I have fulfilled my promise on power sector - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said he had lived up to his campaign pledge to Nigerians that he would make the power sector a priority for his administration.

Jonathan spoke during the inauguration of the Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ogun State.

The power plant is a 750MW Nigerian Integrated Power Project.

“I have lived up to my campaign pledge to make the power sector a priority,”Jonathan told the gathering that included members of the Federal Executive Council, Peoples Democratic Party chiefs from Ogun State and leading traditional rulers.

Jonathan said although it was capital intensive to make a difference in the power sector, his administration had been tackling it headlong.

He said the short interface between public ownership of power sector to private sector would soon be over.

With that session over, the President said Nigerians would begin to take power for granted in the next two years.

He said, “The interface between 100 per cent ownership of the power sector by government and 100 percent ownership by private sector will soon be over.

“In the next two years, Nigerians can take power sector for granted like it is obtainable in other countries.”

He said he was confident that Nigeria is moving in the right direction under his watch.

He described the power plant as the second largest NIPP power station in the country.

The President urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its desire to improve electricity.

  2. This president is good at lying. The least he should have done is to give credit to the man that built this plant, late Dr. Olusegun Agagu under the Obasanjo regime. Olorunsogo power plant is one of the three modern plants built by the late gov. Olusegun Agagu during his short spell as minister of power and steel. Mr president should stop deceiving the people.

  3. Mr President, you may have done your best in your own mind but your best does not amount to much in the minds of Nigeria. There is a need for a change of guards. We can't remain a corrupt and incompetent country which is what we are under your watch. You need to go so that the country can re-tool its direction. You can't take us anywhere, that I know.

A simple question to you, what did gej do for SS, SE, SW in six yrs. Well, birds of the same feather reasons together.

The president is trying his best to put the power sector in a good light and here we have people come to insult him. That's very bad.

Over the past years, what has happened to the power sector?
Oga jona you are the best president. Carry go!

  12. The President promised to give us light within four years of coming to power. However, six years later, we still have no light and he said he has fulfilled his promise. Is that fair to us Mr President?

Mr President did not promise us darkness but that is what we continue to get.

  13. The fact is that the Federal Government under GEJ is good at claiming the reward of good policies enunciated by others. Simply put, it portends cheating cum deceit. Nigerians, we are free to choose between a reliable future and deceitful one.
I appeal to our brothers and Sisters that run comments on this platform to please moderate their comments in such a way that we do not denigrate the office of the President even at the face of provocative statements/wanton lies issued by the present occupier of that position and his cohorts.

  14. Electricity bills have increased without power supply. What are we paying for? Wicked leaders, God would avenge for the poor. Let them ho and study what happens to corrupt and heartless leaders in the holy book. Sold the so called power stations and distribution companies to themselves. There is God.
