Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnap 13 women in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have reportedly abducted 13 women at a farming settlement area near Dalwa village in Damboa local government area of Borno State, witnesses and security sources said.

The women, according to the source, were driven by hunger to return to their abandoned farms to get some crops harvested, but unfortunately ran into trouble with the terrorists.

About four of the women were said to be nursing mothers who carried their kids on their back.

The abductors were said to have flocked the women towards the seized town of Damboa.

Spokesman of the vigilante group in the state, Muhammed Abbas Gava, told journalists that “The women, who had fled their homes when Boko Haram took over Damboa in July, had, out of hunger, wanted to go and make some harvest in their farms; the abductors took them away and up till now, we are not sure of what happened to them. One of our members, who was informed by a woman that managed to escape the abduction, said up till now, they have not heard any word about the women”.

Borno State police command is yet to confirm the incident.
