Obasanjo blasts President Jonathan - 'You Are Evil'

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken another swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, describing some of his actions as evil.

Obasanjo who spoke at a book launch in honour of the pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, Mustapha Akanbi, in Abuja on Wednesday, declared that Nigerian democracy remained at risk due to the actions of Jonathan, Premium Times reports.

Obasanjo, who was the Chairman of the occasion, said Jonathan should stop encouraging “verbal violence which may not physically hurt but has ways of degenerating into physical violence.”

According to Obasanjo, the greatest indictment against any administration is to be seen trying to destroy opposition of all sorts which invariably means destroying democracy.

“Management of democracy without resorting to brute force and dictatorial tendencies must be cultivated,” Obasanjo stated.

“As a leader, you must not deliberately do evil or condone evil. You should know that you will one day give account to God, you may cover up here, but before God, there is no cover up,” he added.
Obasanjo also spoke at lenght on the President’s handling of the Boko Haram insurgency, corruption, the economy and youth unemployment.

On insecurity, Obasanjo said Boko Haram is not out to “frustrate anyone’s political efforts” and lamented that it took Jonathan the years to fully understand the menace.

On corruption, Obasanjo said, “when the head is rotten, the whole body is useless.”

On the economy, he said Nigeria would continue to sink deeper and that what Nigerians are told about the state of the economy “is not truly what the economy is.”

“The economy is in doldrums, if not in reverse,” he said.

Obasanjo’s latest attack on President Jonathan is coming seven days after he rated President Jonathan’s performance as below average.

Addressing book writers in Abeokuta last weekend as part of activities marking the Ake Arts and Book Festival, Obasanjo said in response to a question on Jonathan’s performance, “I rate this current administration below average.”

Obasanjo also rejected accusations that he assisted Jonathan to become president, saying he deserved credit for helping an individual from a minority tribe to become Nigeria’s President.

“Rather than take blame for bringing Jonathan to power, I should be taking credit,” he added.
Responding to Obasanjo’s criticisms on Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, condemned Obasanjo’s rating as untrue and misleading.
Okupe said Obasanjo’s rating was at variance “with the facts on the ground.”

Okupe said President Jonathan had performed so well that “in terms of performance and achievements, no administration since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence from Britain, has done as much as that of President Jonathan.”

It is better if Nigerians can make a ü"TURN.We should try to make a change and see possible and positive changes.Democracy has given us this opportunity if we desire changes.Nigerians should wake up and make a change.A mistake has been comited for electing Jonathan, since he has disappointed us,let us decide who should lead us in the next election. Those in support of Jonathan are the corrupt and tribalistic ones amongs us.

  17. I hate commenting on issues from here but i cant help on this cos people have refused to be objective in their comments. Obasenjo is not God and cannot judge Good luck. Obasenjo has no moral justification to call Good luck Evil cos Obasenjos administration was filled with evil. odi massacre, the benue massacre etc. he talks of corruption, i will only talk of NIPP in obasenjos administration. what did we achieve with the spending of so much billions in dollars-Nothing. and for your information obasenjo did not bring jonathan to tower and will not or cannot take any credit cos if obj has his way he would have imposed odili to Nigerians. Goodlucks coming was divine and Glory goes to God. why is obj calling goodluck evil simply bcos goodluck has refused to bow to him as others do. Nigeria will not break. what so ever Tinubu and his Apc cohorts do to cos problem in this country will fail. for your information, we the Niger deltians are not afraid for break up. we have nothing to loose instead we will benefit more. The unity of Nigeria has been in the benefit of the North and if they want to be stupid we will help them.Tinubu,Obj,Amaechi and co will not and can never decide the fate of jonathan in 2015 elections. Nigerians will and they should stop causing problem in our country.

  19. It's so unfortunate obj could tag Jonathan's GOVT evil and been the most corrupt govt so far in the history of Nigeria.im in my mid 30's and I can picture the administration's of some of our past leader's like obj, yaradua,iBB,abacha, buhari.non of them has address the problem of road infrastructure, prepare a good road map for power generation, revamp our decaying infrastructure like our airport, seaports, rail transportation, agricultural modernisation, establishment of more federal universities and many like the ones president Jonathan has done.obj most especially has quickly forgotten the 16 billion dollars he stole as regards to power generation which he has never shore up power upto 4000mw.8 years of obj is a waste of time, resources, leadership and followership.he barely achieve and tangible thing while in power.his govt was full of corruption and he uses efcc to chain all his critics. I'm not a campaigner of gej 2nd term neither I'm I a politician but truth be told, gej has show some form of concern in regards to infrastructural challenges that the ex leaders has shun.nigeria challenges are so enormous that if each of our past leader's has been addressing one issue maybe successive govt would have been inheriting just few issues. yaradua was advised to focus on just two issues concerning the economy but he insisted that he gonna achieve all his 7 point agenda which he never achieve till his demise.all I'm saying is let's us join hand in supporting the govt in power to achieve more cos any lost year without a meaningful achievement will have effect on us all. God bless Nigeria.

  21. Anybody should be able to do better than GEJ in leadership.

Those who want GEJ again are his corrupt cronies. All the problems of Nigeria links to corruption.

The greatest problem is that GEJ does not believe we have corruption in Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  22. OBJ is a shame to Nigerian Democracy , because all the Corruptions he is talking abt existed during his administration but he couldn't cub it.OBJ call GEJ Evil , Baba waiting you be Grand papa Evil & Devil. Go and seat down you spoiled Nigerian Democracy because you are insulting the office you ones waited to die there. Leave GEJ alone- Nigeria is on the verge to Break and every one go their own way-after all it is Nigerian money that you use in building Ota farm and you have not been probe by EFCC or ICPC. Leave Jonathan alone very soon Niger Delta oil will be shut down and every tribe will return to Agriculture.

    ReplyDelete
  23. pls, pls, pls!!!!!Leave north out of this matter.OBJ,Tinubu,Ameachi are not northerners.GEJ has failed this country ,and he should go.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Relatively and with available resources, GEJ ought to have done better. Let me conscientiously state that GEJ is a dissapointment to the literate class. They said he has PH.D. With that qualification, he ought to know how to manage Nigeria better by appointing good heads and putting eyes on their activities to ensure that they dont derail. All we have in his cabinet are mediocres and sycophants

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nigerians forget so easily. This same man who after 8 wasted years plotted to keep himself there for third term. What are his achievement that GEJ government destroyed. Look at who is talking if corruption, under his very nose works and housing minister looted over a hundred billion naira meant for road construction, he evented EFCC to witch hunt those not loyal him. Bliv it or not, if Jonathan is evil, OBJ satanically grand evil. Shame.
