The Federal Government, through the National Directorate of Employment, has provided N3m grant to 300 “poorest of the poor” people in six local governments areas of Ekiti State.
The beneficiary LGAs are Ado, Ikere, Irepodun-Ifelodun, Ido-Osi, Ise-Orun and Ikole.
The grant is for them to establish “micro (mini) enterprises” such as roasting of corn/plantain, as well as sale of pure water, coca cola, fruits, vegetables, garri, yams and any other micro (mini) business ventures.
In his address in Ado-Ekiti during the disbursement, the NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, said the initiative was designed to sustain employment generation and poverty reduction in both urban and rural areas of the federation.
Mohammed, who was represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Sharafat Adeola, urged the beneficiaries, selected by traditional rulers and community leaders in the six LGAs, to make use of the opportunity to actualise their dreams of a humble beginning.
“I implore you to make judicious use of the money to ensure you are self-employed,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Poverty alliviation indeed. This is promotion of poverty @ the highest level. Just fix electricity ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and the poverty in the land will naturally reduce.
How can this reduce poverty 3m for 300 people, can dis work?
ReplyDeleteThe money if shared according will give each person #10,000 each, but by the time this money is eventually shared the highest the supposed beneficiaries will get will @ most #2000. The is because the so called people that are disbursing the money will automatically disbursed first to themselves before giving the original and intended beneficiaries. That's nijer for you
ReplyDeleteThis is capital support, for businesses like selling of pure water, corn roasting etc that is about what you need.Infrastructure will help the large society but dis subvention is a fillip for these poor people?provided it gets to them.
ReplyDeleteIs this the type of money you give to those concubines u keep? We don't have a Govt yet. Not at the Federal, state or LG level. What a pity. If only you guys have conscience cos I know u have brains even though it is operating on a very low capacity.
ReplyDeleteReally, Empowerment!!! N10,000 per head. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. God help us.
ReplyDeleteMadness. 10k per head. They will end up getting 1k per head. What can anyone possibly do with the miserable 10k. This is a shame. Give them free education instead and set up vocational centers. Empowerment my foot. Thieves.
