Presidency blasts Amaechi - 'You have lost all sense of decorum and responsible political behaviour'

The Presidency on Sunday came down hard on Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State over some allegations he made against President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, on Saturday.

While speaking at the All Progressives Congress mega rally held in Port Harcourt, Amaechi had among other allegations accused Jonathan of not implementing any project in the state, encouraging corruption and meddling in the state’s internal affairs.

But the Presidency, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, described the allegations as false and baseless vituperations.

Abati said the governor’s unwarranted outburst was an indication that he had lost all sense of propriety, decorum and responsible political behaviour.

He said Amaechi was peddling the falsehood in order to incite the people of the state and the country against his assumed political foes.

He wrote, “Governor Rotimi Amaechi took his obnoxious willingness to denigrate the highest office in the land in a reckless bid to advance his selfish political interests to a new level of irresponsible and rascally behaviour yesterday (Saturday) in Port Harcourt with his totally false and baseless vituperations against President Jonathan, the First Lady and the Federal Government.

“It appears from the Governor’s completely unfounded and off-the-mark allegations that he had totally lost all sense of propriety, decorum and responsible political behaviour and resorted to unacceptable demagoguery, libel, blackmail and incitement of public disorder.

“Unless his unbridled ambition and desire for self- promotion have completely befuddled his mental faculties and caused him to totally lose touch with reality, Governor Amaechi must know that his claims and allegations are untrue.

“We can only assume therefore that he is deliberately spewing malicious falsehood in a desperate effort to incite the people of Rivers State and Nigeria against his assumed political foes.”

Abati warned the governor that there are legal, constitutional and moral limits to political rascality beyond which he would not be allowed to go without repercussions.

He said notwithstanding the immunity he currently enjoys, a day of reckoning would come when Amaechi would answer for all his false allegations against the President, his wife and the Federal Government.

  1. This gov Amaechi or whatever is a senseless he-goat. Why did Rivers people allow him for these eight years? Anyway his days are numbered. He should learn from the likes of Ibori.

  3. I would have wished that the SA to the president, could has listed projects in which the FG has carried out in Rivers state and defend his principal officer GEJ, but not once did he mention any project, what Ameachi said was that River's oil well has being given to other states! East west road is still in a very poor state! the gov. has done a great deal for his state( primary health care & school) affordable for his people but I think he is taking the fight too far, as most time Nigerian's Leaders and people around does not like this.! May God help us all

    1. U are indeed a very analytical reader, unlike psychophants & other ppl dat take things for their face value.
Mr. Abati has only replied with coded insults the previous insults with allegations made by Gov. Amaechi!
He refuted d claim but didn't provide any instance to prove the claims to lack substance.
I believe the Gov.'s claim is right.

  6. If what amaechi has said are lies, it is in the place of the presidency to prove him wrong by citing instances amongst others where the state(rivers) has felt the federal government's presence in terms of projects carried out in rivers state. It shouldn't just be viewed as a political quarrel. While I agree that amaechi took it too far, We should also ask ourselves if it is out of place to speak out when we perceive irregularities and side-lining from the part of the presidency.
